Our Automation team in our Wixom, MI location is currently looking for a bright, ambitious Hardware Designer who enjoys teamwork and on-going challenging projects.

Major Duties

This is an intermediate level position that would is expected to generally work independently with limited direction from more experienced designer. Responsible for technical support of PLC based hardware. Applicants are expected to have the ability and experience to design and develop basic machine controls design, and skills using AutoCad or ePlan. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within this particular field.

Specific Responsibilities

•    Produce complete design package including detailed schematics, cable diagrams, Bill of Materials, and safety circuits that meet the design requirements
•    Enclosure construction and layout designs.
•    Specify all electrical and controls-related hardware and software and produce requisition forms for material purchases.
•    Research and specify appropriate purchased and preferred components
•    Work with mechanical engineers to collect and provide information to perform duties.
•    Design systems to integrate third party equipment and electronic components into electrical design package.
•    Perform data extraction and entry into systems for material requisitions
•    Participate or lead in internal and customer design reviews when needed
•    Work with and Problem-solve with manufacturing trades for Piping and wiring
•    Complete and accurate controls documentation, Drawings and Bill of Material for final customer documentation.
•    Communicate ideas and information both verbally and in written form
•    Other duties may be expected to support controls department functions



  • 3-5 years’ experience in systems/controls development and integration of factory automation equipment; understanding of PLC’s, robotics, control systems and machine operation is required.
  • Work with PLC’s, panel view’s and related components is advantageous.
  • Ability to keep abreast of leading-edge technology is essential.
  • Must have ability to work with and communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.



  • An Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science degree in a related field or equivalent experience in related field.
