Director, Infrastructure & Operations

Job Description

 

Position Title:  Director of IT Infrastructure and Operations
Department:  Corporate Information Technology
Reports To:  Chief Information Officer

 

Summary:

The Director of IT Infrastructure and Operations will direct all Enterprise IT Architecture, Network & Telecommunications platforms and services.  The scope of this role will also include responsibility for third party partners as well as the engagement/partnership with our regional IT associates and site activities. 

 

The Director will be responsible for the strategic planning, direction, leadership and management of the IT Infrastructure Department to ensure corporate targets and goals are met. The Director is additionally responsible for the planning and implementation of enterprise and departmental IT systems in support of business operations in order to improve cost effectiveness, service quality, and business development.
 

Responsibilities

 

Strategy:

  • Responsible for long-term strategic planning including technology roadmap and 3 year rolling IT strategy, including financials, documentation and training.
  • Develop the go-forward technology strategy and roadmap for the organization’s cloud infrastructure versus on premise digital needs. 
  • Assess the potential impact of emerging technologies relative to strategic business needs and recommend their use in the company for current and future needs; works with Senior Management on technology policy and guidelines to enable new technology. 

 

Operations:

  • Engage, plan and work with all stakeholders and team members to determine, implement and oversee all current and future IT infrastructure and network requirements. 
  • Confer with department heads involved with proposed projects to ensure cooperation and to further define the nature of the projects.
  • Ensure that effective audit, incident and change management processes are followed within the IT department to maximize uptime and protect our systems. 
  • Responsible for the deployment of all corporate infrastructure and associated applications by ensuring that all analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and transition to production activities are completed.
  • Collaborate with IT leaders responsible for Corporate business systems running on the network 
  • Responsible for supporting M&A projects, with an emphasis on effectively integrating the systems 
  • Oversee and regularly report on all major Infrastructure and Operations implementation plans and activities to ensure compliance to approved objectives, goals and budgets for such activities and to report all actual deviations from such plans as soon as possible.

Leadership:

  • Provide leadership and oversight to a team of direct and indirect reports responsible for Technology Services inclusive of Infrastructure, Network Operations, Security Architecture, Acquisition Integration and Service Delivery.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams responsible for improving or re-engineering business processes and information systems to align with strategic business directions including best practices and overall industry standards.
  • Negotiate and manage vendor relationships including establishing a process for evaluating new and existing vendors, to ensure services delivered meet the required business value objectives, IT and security standards.
  • Ensure that the corporation makes maximum use of the general system by providing for the education and training of the principal users and by remaining informed of developments related to the information technologies that are relevant to the activities of the Corporation.
  • Coordinate efforts of management specialists, technical personnel, or vendors to solve problems.

 

Financials:

  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting deviations, problems, new risks and corrective actions on a timely and effective basis in relation to approved budgets for all IT initiatives. Reports on actual benefits obtained from major IT initiatives post implementation to assess if expected benefits are being realized and to report on any other relevant information.
  • Implement and manage systems and procedures to ensure the proper and efficient use of the Corporation’s IT investments and compliance with laws and contractual obligations regarding IT assets and licenses.
  • Manage tasks, provide cost-effective strategies to eliminate redundancies, inefficiencies, and lower costs while keeping scalability, robustness, security, continuity of business and disaster recovery with stakeholders in top of mind.
  • Responsible for the financial strategic planning, project budgeting and reporting, the preparation and managing of the capital and operating budgets.

Requirements

 

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science; a Master’s degree is preferred. 

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of senior IT leadership experience managing multiple leaders 
  • Extensive experience in the areas of information security, IT governance, risk and compliance, best practices in application and network security, and experience in the operation and support of a wide range of networked end user computing technologies.
  • Strong project management skills that include the ability prioritize multiple initiatives and mobilize teams from various areas across IT to deliver on-time technology solutions. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and develop employees. 
  • Strong vendor management and negotiation skills. 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and propose new IT business processes and systems 
  • Ability to take ownership, demonstrate sense of urgency and drive operational excellence.
