Logistics Specialist - Customs
Major Duties
The Logistics Specialist – Customs will support the day to day functions for processing incoming and outgoing shipments from a documentation, customs and transportation perspective.
Job Description
- Interpret logistics provider/shipment data for cost and process improvements. Summarize and present findings.
- Create, generate and maintain supply chain metrics to include monthly reports for performance, freight and duty expenditures, carrier usage, etc.
- Prime for adhoc analysis on landed cost, RFP/RFQ responses and logistics requirements for new business proposals.
- Interface with customs broker and resolve service and other issues.
- Administer, support and review confidential carrier contracts, including SOPs, service level reviews and contract compliance.
- Ensure logistics provider data is accurate and updated.
- Ensure compliance with all customs regulations and processes on all North American and offshore import and export transactions.
- Provide in-house guidance/knowledge on classification, HS tariff codes and NAFTA.
- Support the selection, contracting and execution of cost effective and timely transportation requirements and prepare appropriate customs documentation and shipping information.
- Perform freight and customs invoice audits, resolve discrepancies and ensure rate schedules are current.
- Interact with ATS sites/departments, logistics providers, customers and vendors on customs and transportation issues.
- Support the ongoing CBSA Verification Audit and assist in creating audit procedures required based on outcome.
- Compile monthly vendor import compliance issues metrics and work issues with buyers/purchasing groups.
- The incumbent will also perform other duties as required.
- Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
- Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.
Qualifications
Education:
- A post-secondary diploma in logistics or equivalent.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years logistics background.
- CCS, CITT or PLOG certification preferred.
- Strong computer skills using MS Office, particularly Excel. Working knowledge of SAP or JDE is a definite asset.
- Proficient in customs operations, laws and regulations, HS system and NAFTA.
- Thorough knowledge in customs procedures is mandatory.
- Knowledge in all modes of transport.
- Ability to work across functions and departments in order to achieve optimal process efficiencies.
- Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills with exacting attention to detail and proven ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and teambuilding skills.
