Product Design Electrical


Job Description


ATS is focused on growing our product and innovation focus.  As a core member of the development team, the Product Designer, Electrical will provide technical direction and design to deliver on the Products development initiatives.  


Produces and maintains complete standard product controls solutions and electrical design packages based on customer requirements and standardized design practices used at ATS.



  • Work with a cross functional team during the product design process to implement a control system that will enable the intended functional safely and reliably.
  • Formulate and produce complete electrical design package, which includes detailed electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics, cable routing diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials and material requisitions, based on ATS standard specifications and the customers’ requirements.
  • Work with the product design team to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, improving the customer experience, and reduced cost.
  • Specify all electrical and controls-related hardware and software and produce requisitions for material purchases.
  • Integrate third party equipment and electronic component entry into electrical design packages. Examples include serial and network communications, hardware handshaking, opto-isolation, electrical and ultrasonic welding applications, vision systems, motion control products, transducers, and signal conditioners.
  • Verify that electrical design package is complete, accurate and safe based on sound design practices and accepted standards, and that the I/O drawings meet program requirements prior to issue to shop floor.
  • Maintain CE and UL declarations and certifications as it relates to the ATS products. 
  • Collaborate with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers, and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete, functional system.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.


•    Work in compliance with divisional health, safety, and environmental procedures
•    Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods
•    Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts
•    Report defect in any equipment or protective device
•    Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks
•    Attend all required health, safety, and environmental training
•    Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor
•    Assist in investigating accidents/incidents
•    Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running, or rough and boisterous conduct


Additional Information



  • A post-secondary technology diploma or engineering degree or equivalent, specializing in electronics, electrical or controls technology.



  • Three years experience in electrical control systems design, preferably in the industrial automation field
  • A working knowledge of ePlan and AutoCAD and the ability to keep abreast of leading-edge technology is essential
  • Strong, organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Experience with (or in) embedded electrical design is a bonus
  • Experience with CE and UL standards
