Senior Buyer

Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY:

We are looking for an experienced Buyer to join our team. As a key member of the Supply Chain team, you will identify various sources of commodities and fabricated parts, evaluate and award contracts based on what is in the best interest of our organization. Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining positive relationship with our vendors.

 

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Analyze demands, monitor markets and review suppliers to create a basis for deciding on the optimum sourcing strategy in collaboration with our existing or new suppliers
  • Responsible for executing the Request for Quote (RFQ) process for new material requirements and negotiating optimal pricing solutions to support business objectives
  • Manage daily systems, processes and procedures governing the end-to-end process of the procurement of materials from the right suppliers, at the right price, quality and delivery requirements
  • Continuously search for new sources of vendors to meet cost reduction objectives
  • Ensure the availability of materials in the supply chain, as scheduled, and the maintenance of inventory at minimum acceptable levels
  • Processes purchasing documentation and applications (i.e. Requisitions, Purchase Orders, Cancellation Forms, Inventory Adjustment Forms) in accordance with ATS Policies and Procedures.
  • Track, monitor and maintain purchase order deliveries to drive on-time delivery to production schedules and communicate any interruptions as they arise
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the company suppliers in accordance with ATS Code of Business Conduct while maintaining the highest standard of professionalism
  • Assure that suppliers have the capacity to meet our current and future needs as well as ongoing capacity to satisfy unplanned demands
  • Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability
  • Participate in the selection of substitutes and/or alternative components when needed
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications, understand critical tolerances, quality requirements, to assist in choosing appropriate vendors
  • Roll out Drawing Reviews for new or when transferring parts to a new Supplier, ensuring internal stakeholders are in attendance (Quality and Manufacturing leads from APG)
  • Ensure that necessary measures are taken to ensure non-stop production, with contingency plan
  • Assist in the development of cost containment, product standardization, vendor consolidation, and other supply chain management strategies that maximize value
  • Liaise with other departments on project requirements, expediting purchase requirements on input from the Operations Director and/or Supply Chain Manager
  • Provides analytics as required to include impact of changes on price, overall activity levels, savings tracking
  • Assist in resolving invoicing discrepancies, receiving discrepancies, and assist in preparation of documents for return / RMA of material when required
  • Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the procurement process
  • Adhere to all ISO procedures and departmental policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures. Work in compliance with divisional health and safety and environmental procedures
  • Ad hoc duties/projects as required such as; onboarding/training Co-op Students, Kaizen events all ABM initiatives

Additional Information

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • A postsecondary diploma or degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration or equivalent
  • SCMP designation an asset
  • Member of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) is an asset.

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of three years of purchasing experience in a custom manufacturing environment
  • Sound working knowledge of Excel, Word and other MS Office software
  • Theoretical and hands-on knowledge of purchasing and material planning concepts
  • Proven organizational, negotiation, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings is an asset
  • Excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact in a team environment
