Senior Buyer - Third Party Custom Equipment


Job Description


Procurement specialist in Custom Equipment sourcing and negotiation.  Is the liaison between Suppliers, Design, and Purchasing to achieve project and departmental goals and objectives.



•    Lead sourcing and negotiations for all assigned custom equipment 
•    Support the development of custom equipment from kick-off to FAT (Application, Engineering, Purchasing, Assembly, and Post-Project Service) to ensure successful execution through the supply chain.
•    Advise and achieve lowest cost compliant solutions.
•    Ensure key commercial milestones such as payment(s) are being achieved in compliance with negotiated Terms and Conditions
•    Maintain favourable Terms and Conditions for ATS
•    Understand the product from initial concept and provide early input regarding ease and cost of supply.
•    Maintain a focus on vendor capacities to enable low cost design and facilitate a collaborative working relationship between Design Engineers and Suppliers.
•    Keep advise of market trends
•    Proactively maintain a funnel of opportunities specific to custom equipment and evaluate market capacity
•    Regular monitoring and contributions to an Approved Supplier list based on capability and performance
•    Support supplier accountability to schedule
•    Coordinate shipping of Customer samples (if applicable)
•    Responsible for order entry and maintenance throughout (including any approvals)
•    Provide regular feedback to Applications on Supplier performance



A Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Supply Chain, Engineering or equivalent discipline. Previous experience with outsourcing management of industrial equipment incorporated in automation is an asset.



•    A minimum of 8-10 years Purchasing or Category Management experience in a custom manufacturing environment.
•    Strong negotiator
•    Experienced in contract negotiations
•    Multiple Technical experiences across different market segments (Mechanical experience preferred) and/or strong ability to learn new industries
•    Strong accountability to schedule  
•    Situational Adaptability (ability to deal with changing and fluid situations)
•    Conflict Management skills 
•    Sound working knowledge of Excel, Word and other MS Office software. 
•    Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
•    Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Ability to interact in a dynamic multi-disciplinary team environment.
