Job Description
ROLE SUMMARY:
Assisting in servicing automation equipment remotely and at the customers’ facilities with a focus on, resolution of customer issues to support increasing customer loyalty and revenue with alignment to the customer’s needs. Assisting in preparing comprehensive service reports to support system improvements and generating additional opportunities. FSR’s Apprentices will be rotated through periods where they will be performing services work, and periods where they will be integrated into our system build process where they will develop deeper knowledge of specific systems to become subject matter experts to support our customers throughout the life cycle of their systems.
Responsibilities include:
• All apprentices shall complete a 4 year, 8,000 hour apprenticeship and receive their Certificate of Qualification
• Learn how to machine, fit, assemble and build precision tooling, special purpose machinery and mechanical assemblies for robotic work cells and factory automation projects.
• Set up and operate various machine tools, such as manual lathes and small mills, and apply knowledge of mechanisms, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures to support the assembly team with new work or rework.
• Troubleshoot mechanical equipment at the customer’s facility and review necessary adjustments with the FSR Team lead before implementing adjustments to bring equipment up to running status.
• Report and correct abnormal equipment conditions and inaccurate actions by customer staff.
• Review/suggest additional tools or equipment necessary to better operate or maintain customer equipment.
• Make recommendations to repair/replace only items that require repair/replacement.
• Travel to both domestic and international customer locations for long- and short-term support.
• Follow ATS and customer’s plant and safety regulations while at their facility.
• Complete detailed Service Report for the services provided in a timely manner and submit to the appropriate people.
• Support to ensure customer issues have been resolved through follow-up communication and project/case closure if required.
• Be available to be on-call on a rotational basis.
• Communicate through various mediums with internal and external customers to understand needs and support resources and solutions accordingly.
• Collect and assemble all necessary technical information and customer specifications to prepare for service scope.
• Assist with warranty/non-warranty claims with the customer.
• Assist others and take on temporary or permanent assignments as requested by the Service Manager.
• Responsible for keeping up with current products and equipment used at ATS in Cambridge.
• Responsible for meeting or exceeding customer expectations in an efficient manner.
• Fill out daily site reports and safety check lists
• During integration into Systems build you’ll be required to perform all duties by our internal CAPEX build teams.
• Must be willing to travel to customer sites.
• Travel is typically 50 to 60%, but there could be periods of higher travel requests during service rotations per year
Qualifications
Education
• A grade 12 diploma specializing in drafting and machine shop or equivalent.
Experience
• Requires a practical working knowledge of the operation of all toolroom equipment, an ability to read blueprints and a keen interest in learning the Machine Tool Builder and Integrator/ Millwright trade.
• Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.
• An understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics with a basic understanding of electrical and system controls would be an asset.
• Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting and correcting malfunctioning automated machinery, would be an asset.
• Displays professionalism and has well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of customer and ATS management in a multi-disciplined engineering environment under pressure.
• Demonstrated ability to read engineering drawings, reference manuals and assembly systems instruction guides.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Working Conditions
• Works in shared environment. Environment contains several hazards including electrical wiring and motorized vehicles (tow motors).
• Travels internationally
Physical Requirements:
• May be required to stand at workstations for prolonged periods of time.
• May be required to perform a wide range of movements including bending, crawling, kneeling, etc.
• May be required to lift up to 30lbs repetitively.
• May work with odorous substances within confined spaces.
• Use of hand tools requires significant manual dexterity.
• Requires a practical working knowledge of the operation of all toolroom equipment, an ability to read blueprints and a keen interest in learning the Machine Tool Builder and Integrator/ Millwright trade.
