THE BUSINESS:
Life Sciences, operating as a Segment within ATS, is a $500M+ business with 5 manufacturing locations. Over 35% of our employees are highly trained professional engineers. We currently operate in Europe, North America and Asia. Our many customers include most of the major life science, medical device, and pharmaceutical companies. 

Within the Life Sciences Segment is our Pre-Automation Services group, whose objective is to develop industry leading automation strategies utilizing the right combination of vision and due diligence. Drawing upon a broad technical base and seasoned experience in multiple markets, our experts develop optimized manufacturing strategies that consider everything from process design and time to market, to unit cost and maximum return on investment. Through close collaboration with our customers and disciplined data-driven analysis, we conceptualize, simulate, and perfect comprehensive automation solutions before our customers invest.


THE ROLE:
This role is based out Cambridge, Ontario. Travel will be required due to the many locations in which our customers are located and where our businesses operate. The Specialist is responsible for two primary objectives

1.    Lead all aspects of Pre-Automation Services projects from purchase order to project completion. You will develop and execute project plans, coordinate the activities of your cross-functional teams, and ensure high quality deliverables and an exceptional customer experience

2.    Perform technical functions on Pre-Automation Services consulting assignments as required


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Become a subject matter expert in the Pre-Automation Service offering
•    Lead concurrent end-to-end Pre-Automation Services projects from receipt of order to project completion
•    Perform Pre-Automation Service activities as required, including customer site visits, process mapping, concept development, feasibility study planning, validation planning, writing design specifications, writing user requirement specifications, financial analysis, business case development, developing strategic roadmaps for implementing factory automation, report writing
•    Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve and expand the service offering
•    Support other business areas as required including Account Managers, Applications Engineering, and Operations

Additional Information

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
•    Post-secondary degree or equivalent specializing in Engineering (Industrial, Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Mechatronics), Life Sciences, or similar is required
•    Master’s Degree or MBA is preferred
•    Certification or demonstrated equivalent experience in Continuous Improvement disciplines including Lean, Six Sigma, etc. is preferred
•    Completion of or working towards the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is preferred


Experience:
•    5 years leading projects in the field of pharmaceutical or medical device operations, preferably in a consulting, project engineering, or automated manufacturing environment
•    Experience in leading and coordinating a multi-discipline project team
•    Excellent communication skills and ability to present ideas, concepts, and information to varied audiences
•    Technical experience in pharmaceutical or medical device manufacturing, validation, or project engineering
•    Understanding of various automation system platforms, robotics, vision systems, machine controls, problem solving methodologies, design of experiment, design for manufacture and assembly, statistical analysis
