Senior Buyer

Scientific Products, an ATS Life Sciences company is looking for a Senior Buyer to join their team!

 

A Senior Buyer at SP is responsible for commodity ownership and procurement for multiple manufacturing facilities in collaboration with the greater Purchasing and Supply Chain team. Common categories of part ownership may include sheet metal, machined parts or subassemblies, electrical and controls components, refrigeration and HVAC, or MRO. 

 

A Senior Buyer also independently performs the more complex procurement activities within the Supply Chain team. They may lead assigned projects regarding quoting, supplier identification, and the procurement of materials for R&D, ETO Customer orders, leased or capital equipment, and outside services for the organization. 

 

The Senior Buyer typically handles purchasing duties that are of greater significance to the company and requires higher-level judgment and discretion. Areas of focus include supplier and open order management, cost reduction, sourcing, supply risk management and escalation to key stakeholders within the organization, spend analytics, MRP and ERP utilization, as well as problem solving.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Execute and manage the entire purchase order process for assigned part categories, including appropriate documentation, data entry, submission, order expediting, delivery, and reconciliation of related issues
  • Identification and understanding of critical suppliers within assigned part categories; develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers; regular open order review and management, mitigation, and/or escalation of critical supplier OTD, cost, and quality performance
  • Review and analyze MRP requirements against planned order and exception reports to determine purchasing actions required against supply and demand
  • Proactively obtain competitive bids per procedure; evaluate and negotiate price, payment terms, and lead-time as needed
  • Lead purchasing activities within part category ownership with Manufacturing, Planning, Strategic Sourcing, Quality, and/or Engineering departments as needed to solve complex material supply issues and maintain inventory at planned levels
  • Take initiative and build teams that may include different functions like Planning, Engineering, and Sourcing to solve (or be able to independently solve) supplier issues and/or part shortages, to improve long-term supplier performance and resolve stockouts
  • Maintain purchasing item attributes, such as lead times, cost, UOM, supplier information, and inspection or certificate requirements, as well as related vendor attributes, within the company ERP system
  • Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to ensure purchased materials meet the required specifications and ensure root cause, corrective actions are submitted in a timely fashion
  • Assist with general responsibilities within the tactical purchasing department, such as reviewing and converting purchase order requisitions, supplier nonconformities, or running purchasing reports
  • Provide input to Supply Chain and Strategic Sourcing Managers on key vendor performance; participate in QBRs or supplier audits as needed; partner on sourcing projects to drive BCC or incumbent supplier transition plans, while mitigating disruption risk from existing footprint
  • Support supplier consolidation in alignment with SP preferred suppliers
  • Partner with Service and Planning teams to ensure continuity of inventory or service stock in support of customer OTD and revenue, by responding to planning parameter triggers, such as ROP, EOQ, min/max, or safety stock – or by making parameter recommendations

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution 
  • Or 7-10+ years’ experience in Procurement or Supply Chain based role(s)
  • Must have a working knowledge of an ERP system
  • Prior experience with MS Office
  • A fundamental understanding of the Purchasing function and best practices

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Professional certification (or working towards), APICS or CIPS
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools to drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience working in a global organization or cross-division business model
  • Strong understanding of MRP and ERP concepts, as related to purchasing, supply and demand, and material and vendor analysis
  • Understanding and practical application of Incoterms in quoting and purchase order placement with vendors

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Work is normally performed in both a typical interior/office and production floor work environment.  

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and is frequently required to stand, use both hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, or occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Salary Range:  $70/K - $80/K
