Field Applications Specialist

BioDot is currently experiencing growth and we currently have the immediate need for a Field Application Specialist to work out of our US Headquarters in Irvine, CA.  


The Field Application Specialist reports to the Applications Manager, Global and is responsible for robotic automation within a fast pace and highly automated biotech environment.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Performs installation and training of BioDot equipment.
  • Validates, adapts and customizes new robotic equipment to support the automation of the lab processes.
  • Develops, validates and implements new applications for current and new robotic lab equipment.
  • Continuously analyses and improves current automation in the lab by applying state of the art technology.
  • Documents all steps of the design and implementation process and collects and analyzes experimental data for the validation process (IQ, OQ, PQ).
  • Researches the best liquid handling equipment for applications and keeps up to date information about all systems.
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of BioDot/ATS.
  • Coordinates and resolves customer requests for troubleshooting and recovery of instrumentation errors.
  • Liquid handling QC and validation operation and data analysis of customer systems.
  • Develops, validates and implements new applications for current and new robotic lab equipment.Performs assigned feasibility tasks unaided.
  • Liaises directly with Sales team to discuss user requirements and plans feasibility scope.
  • Prepare technical reports for in-house studies and present them to stakeholders.
  • Able to travel 50%-75%.
  • When not traveling, work in house on assigned tasks.
  • Produce in-house best practice protocols for platforms and application notes for BioDot state of the art technology.
     

Additional Information

QUALIFICATIONS:    

  • BS degree in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry or other technical discipline preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience programming and writing scripts for liquid handling equipment
  • Ability to work independent and project oriented
  • Ability to evaluate experimental results independently
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work autonomously at customer sites; customer-facing experience a plus
  • Ability to set priorities, manage multiple priority tasks and make technical decisions within time constraints.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing
  • Familiar with standard laboratory procedures
  • Computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Windows Explorer

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently. 
  • Visual acuity – Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens.
  • Hearing ability – Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions. 
  • Working conditions – The employee is subject to a normal office environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor. 
  • Capable of wearing appropriate related PPE for extended periods of time.
