Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

 

 

Develop concepts and well-engineered mechanical design solutions for mechanisms used in automated assembly systems. Use CAD to produce parts, assemblies, detail drawings, bill of materials, and floor layouts. Support other departments with installation and debug of equipment. Assist other project team members, technical writers, supply chain, assembly, and other departments with the execution of project deliverables to ensure the end-product meets the Customer’s expectations regarding function, quality, and schedule. Ability to extend effort and commitment to meet schedules. Adhere to all established procedures as defined by ATS Quality Procedures, Process Flows, Work Instructions, Safety Procedures, and the Employee Handbook.

 

 

Experience and Education

 

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • 10+ years of relevant design experience preferred
  • SolidWorks design software experience preferred
  • Automation equipment design experience preferred (machinery, part handling techniques, robots, conveyors, sensors, weldments, tools, and fixtures)
  • Experience integrating mechanical designs with electrical hardware and controls software systems preferred
  • Strong hands-on design and technical problem-solving skills required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, new product development environment involving intermittent scope change requests is a must
  • Having a continuous improvement mindset (ability to keep up with mechanical engineering, 3D CAD, and automation industry standards and best practices) is a must
  • Must have strong communication skills for presenting information up and down the organization (technical design reviews, cross-functional handoffs, upper management summaries, customer-facing inquiries)
  • Ability to lead a small technical team and/or sub-system of a large project
  • Exposure to Process Engineering principles is a plus
  • Some travel required
