Controls Engineering Technician (2nd shift)

Seeking a full-time Controls Engineering Technician (2nd shift) for a rapidly growing company in the medical and pharmaceutical industry.  The Controls Engineering Technician assists with development and programming of automated equipment hardware and software according to a customer and internal specification; Capable of working with lead controls engineers on any size project. Duties include:

  • Commission and start up controls systems of new machines.
  • Troubleshoot electrical circuits.
  • Verify proper function of safety circuits and programming.
  • Execute commissioning checklists.
  • Assist machine debug, operating programming software.
  • Make temporary program changes as required to support debug process.
  • Execute permanent program changes as directed by lead controls engineer.
  • Support performance runs.
  • Support software validation requirements.
  • Support customer factory acceptance testing (FAT).
  • Work under the confines of the project schedule and budget.
  • Problem-solve with Mechanical Builders, debug software issues, and update all appropriate documentation.
  • Communicate ideas and comprehend information both verbally and in written form.
  • Work closely with Mechanical Engineering and Build and exhibit objectivity and openness to other’s views.

 

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Work with lead engineers on the development of controls architecture.
  • Research appropriate purchased and preferred components.
  • Create electrical wiring schematics, flow diagrams, panel layouts, bill of materials (BOM), organize release packages, and update schematics as directed by lead controls engineer.
  • Program control systems for cam, servo, and air operated stations, along with test and electrical devices as directed by lead controls engineer.
  • Provide necessary documentation and support for machinery operating manuals.
  • Participate in internal and customer design reviews, installations, and service calls when needed.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of ATS internal and international standards.
  • Maintain departmental goals in keeping with company objectives.
  • Support and participate in Quality Management program.
  • Make recommendations for quality and cost improvements. 
  • Keeps abreast of current product developments.
  • Domestic or international travel (20-50%) or extend workday if required.  

QUALIFICATIONS:    

  • Associate degree in electrical engineering, engineering related field, equivalent experience, or enrolled in a program which results in an associate degree in electrical engineering, engineering related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel).

Experience Preferred: 

  • Prior work experience with or courses for electrical design.
  • Prior work experience with or courses for PLC Programs.

Equipment:

  • Computers, including programs such as RSStudio 5000, FactoryTalk View Studio, EPLAN, AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, Microsoft suite, ATS databases, etc.
  • Copiers and printers/plotters, etc.
  • Inspection and measuring tools such as scales, calipers, micrometers, multi-meters, dB meters, etc.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: 

  • The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently. 
  • Visual Acuity – Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens.
  • Hearing Ability – Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions. 
  • Working Conditions – The employee is subject to a normal office environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor. 
  • Capable of wearing appropriate related PPE for extended periods of time.
