Health and Safety Manager

Job Description

OBJECTIVE:

The Safety Manager is responsible for the ATS LS Chicago Safety Program including business continuity, providing direction and leadership for meeting the goals and objectives of the safety program at the ATS LS Chicago facility.  This role is also responsible for division business continuity management (BCM) creating plans to keep the division functioning after disruptive events such as natural disasters, terrorism, crime and computer and human error.  

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  • Develop and administer a plan for the preparation, implementation and maintenance of the ATS LS Chicago’s Safety Programs, in accordance with the ISO Quality Program Standard and the goals and objectives of the Company.
  • Define and establish the necessary systems, practices, methods and tooling to objectively implement the elements of the Safety Programs, including the preparation, issue and control of the health, safety and environment (HSE) manual and associated operating and safety procedures.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of measures and reports used to monitor safety performance and improvement, associated with meeting internal and external customer requirements.
  • Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
  • Plans, implements, and conducts preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs.
  • Plans, implements, manages, and maintains comprehensive environmental safety & health programs.
  • Provides project management team with guidance on health and safety and confirm project site fulfills industry, local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
  • Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for project site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management. Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence.
  • Guarantees that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies and procedures, contract documents, and good engineering practices.
  • Develop risk management procedures, continuity scenarios and contingency plans for systems and networks to maintain operations during downtime and/or major disasters. 
  • Periodically they test contingency capabilities, report deficiencies, and identify and coordinate resolution of issues.
  • Work with various business units and subsidiaries to ensure the currency of business continuity planning, training, testing and attestation.  
  • Be a key member during incidents and crisis events, working closely with the various incident response team in the formulation of appropriate responses, mitigation of impact arising from such contingencies and providing support to the Crisis Management Team.
  • Execute and monitor the progress of the divisional program.
  • Provide internal consultative advisory services to business units on all business continuity matters.
  • Liaise with external parties in ensuring the adequacy of recovery plans of key service providers when necessary.
  • Coordinate and conduct business recovery exercises to validate the recovery strategies of business units on a regular basis
  • Manage and maintain recovery resources and equipment.
  • Plans, implements, and conducts preventative care, safety, compliance and BCM training programs.
  • Identify opportunities for productivity and quality improvements in processes and recommend solutions.
  • Support compliance with all appropriate policies, procedures, and safety rules.

HEALTH, SAFETY, & ENVIRONMENTAL (HSE) Requirements: 

 

  • Work in compliance with ATS Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) procedures.
  • Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through Lockout-Tagout methods.
  • Actively pursue a duty to act where any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts are witnessed.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts to your leader.
  • Escalate any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts which leaders do not address to the General Manager (GM).
  • Report any defect in any equipment or protective device.
  • Ensure that the required personal protective equipment (PPE) is used for the assigned task.
  • Complete all required Health, Safety, and Environmental training.
  • Report any accidents/incidents, including first aid and near misses to your supervisor.
  • Assist in investigating any accidents/incidents or near misses if requested.
  • Refrain from engaging in any unruly conduct.
  • Ensure that equipment, materials and protective devices are functioning in a safe manner
  • Ensure that employees are working in accordance with divisional health and safety procedures
  • Do not report to work onsite, at a customer’s site, or travel on behalf of ATS when feeling ill. Contact your leader immediately.
  • Conform to all pandemic requirements identified by regulating authorities and ATS leadership during pandemic situations, e.g. social or physical distancing and various PPE requirements. 
  • You are responsible for yourself relative to sanitizing your environmental footprint, for example:
  • Sanitize after use of any common or shared use item within the facility
  • Properly dispose of any witnessed trash or rubbish within the facility to the proper receptacle regardless of the source  use of PPE is recommended for anything potentially determined to be a biohazard
  • Properly dispose of liquids to prevent improper contaminants into the drain and surrounding water systems
  • Smoke/Vape only in the designated patio space at the rear of Building 1 and the designated patio space adjacent to the docks of Building 2 – NOT within 15’ of any door, parking lot, or the trash/recycling area between the buildings.  

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Minimum 4 - 5 years' experience in a Safety/BCM or related role, preferably in a manufacturing;
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels;
  • Able to prioritize, plan and multi-task in a fast-paced collaborative team environment and organize activities systematically;
  • Able to work independently;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills;
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft applications (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Good understanding of industrial BCM standards and relevant local regulatory requirements for the Group’s operating locations;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of banking operations and processes;
  • BCM certification by a recognized BCM institution (i.e. BCI, DRI); and
  • Experience with crisis/incident management
