Machinist I - Toolmaker (2ND Shift)

The Machinist I/Toolmaker will fabricate precision components with the main emphasis on final machining to very close tolerances. 




  • Interpret engineering documents for required finish, tolerance and positioning.
  • Determine equipment and set-up to be used to achieve desired results.
  • Write programs for Proto-Trak Mill and Lathe.
  • Fabricate components with manual/Proto-Trak machining center tools.
  • Work with various toolroom equipment (Mills, Surface grinders, Lathes and Saws).
  • Machine various tooling components to very close tolerances indicated on drawings.
  • Work with various inspection tools to verify final results and record results as required.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and follow safe working practices.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly fashion.
  • Assist machine builders as needed, reworking components to redlined drawings.
  • Follow work instructions and maintain checklists/records when required.
  • Recommend improvements in order to facilitate company growth.
  • Assist with minor machine/tooling repairs as requested.
  • Provide incoming parts’ inspection with emphasis on spare and service parts.
  • Keep work area clean.
  • Other duties as assigned.  



  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Five (5) years minimum experience operating various toolroom equipment including Mills, Lathes, Surface grinders, Saws, etc.
  • Blueprint reading including GD&T.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Proto-Trac CNC programming experience. 
  • CNC conversational programming experience a plus.
  • Inspection tools such as scales, micrometer, vernier, caliper, etc.




  • The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 25 pounds of force frequently. 
  • Visual Acuity – Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens.
  • Hearing Ability – Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions. 
  • Working Conditions – The employee is subject to exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when working on the manufacturing floor. 
  • Capable of wearing appropriate related PPE for extended periods of time.
