Automation Field Service Engineer (FSE)

Job Description


ATS Automation is seeking a Automation Field Service Technician (FSE) who will be responsible for delivering technical support to our customers by providing installation, preventive maintenance, training, and troubleshooting on automation and robotic equipment in the medical device, pharmaceutical and other life science industries. 


Essential Job Duties

  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment at customers’ facilities and make the necessary adjustments to bring equipment up to running status
  • Study blueprints, schematics, manuals, or other specifications to determine installation procedures.
  • Operate equipment to demonstrate proper use or and analyze malfunctions.
  • Set up and test industrial equipment to ensure that it functions properly.
  • Perform preventative maintenance. 
  • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with customers; support and follow-up on customers’ concerns and problems 
  • Resolve service requirements over the phone if possible
  • Make recommendations to repair/replace items
  • Facilitate warranty/non-warranty claims with the customer
  • Be available to be on call on a rotational basis

Additional Information



  • A High School or GED diploma and or TMA (Tooling & Manufacturing Association) or Tool and Die training
  • 3-6 years of experience in a hands-on mechanical/electrical environment
  • 2+ years of experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electromechanical, and/or electronic equipment.
  • 2+ years of experience troubleshooting and responding to customer concerns.
  • The ability to read drawings, reference manuals and assembly systems instruction guides
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues in an easy to understand manner.
  • Experience interfacing with both internal team members and external customers as part of a solution based service process.
  • Experience using precision measurement equipment (i.e. Dial indicators, calipers, etc.)
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to gain knowledge to readily determine parts of an assembly
  • Must be eligible and able to travel domestically & internationally within 30 days from hire date and legally eligible to operate a vehicle, as this is an essential job function
  • Ability to read, speak, write, & understand English in a professional manner
