Robot Programmer

Overview

The Robot Programmer will be responsible for programming, troubleshooting, debugging and preparation of robots to customer specifications. Creating robot programs and interfacing with system PLC from start to finish. Ability to teach and train customers, employees and clients as well as maintaining, servicing and repairing as needed. This is a technical hands-on position that involves setting up/programming the robots on a shop floor, integrating them into a production facility, and providing automation support when completed. It can also require any one of these aspects separately.

This position is based in Wixom, Michigan, with an initial 6-8 week project based in Lewis Center, OH.

Essential Job Duties

  • Downloading OLP’s (Offline Programs)
  • Setting up Communication with the PLC and peripheral equipment
  • Robot zone setup and dress pack adjustment
  • Robot I/O Configuration
  • Robot Mastering, TCP verification, and Payload setup
  • Auto Debug with PLC and troubleshooting
  • Cycle time reduction and throughput improvement
  • Experience with Spot, Sealing/Dispensing, Stud, MIG, Riveting, Flow Drills, Clinch Guns, and all associated Pedestal Applications with Material Handlers.
  • Experience with KUKA SafeOperation, Fanuc DCS, ABB SafeMove, and Kawasaki Cubic-S
  • Experience with one or more of the following robots is extremely favorable - Kawasaki, Fanuc, ABB, Nachi, KUKA, Motoman, or Comau.
  • Initial setup of robots based on customer specifications
  • Programming various processes (material handling, weld, dispense, etc.)
  • Working with customers and team members during system validation in order to achieve customer requirements
  • Follow job from integration to installation and support production startup in end user facility.
  • Write Robot Software
  • Load Robot Programs and configure I/O
  • Path Teaching
  • Vision Teaching (if required)
  • Debug Support with Team
  • Installation Start-Up support
  • Production Support
  • Prepare robots to customer specifications
  • Provide technical support in developing and improving processes
  • Ability to improve cycle time and throughput
  • Assist in the integration, start-up and debug of plant floor equipment
  • Provide support in the analysis and resolution of welding failures. (Spot, Mig, Drawn Arc)
  • Installation and configuration of appropriate hardware and software options
  • Ability to perform electrical diagnosis, recommend repair or repair as needed
  • Provide on-going customer service
  • Provide support to assembly operators and plant skill trades about robots functionality

Education

  • Associates or Bachelor of Science in related field (BSEE, BSEET, BS Industrial Automation, Computer Science, Mathematics, Mechatronics, etc.) or equivalent experience.  

Qualifications

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, & Excel.
  • Experience with setup and training on Vision Systems  
  • Experience setting up various robot communication protocols (i.e., DeviceNet, Profibus, ProfiNet, Ethernet IP).
  • Strong Electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Very proficient with Robotic Path Teaching.
  • Complete understanding of Cartesian coordinate system as it relates to a robot's EOAT & Frames/Work Objects, and the ability to teach such frames.
  • Experience with Vision is a plus
  • Ability to do basic/intermediate programming in other programming languages (i.e. Visual Basic, C or C++ language).
  • Troubleshooting experience with PLC programs.
  • DCS certification is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to program Robotic Systems
  • Knowledge of Interfacing robot with PLC
  • Knowledge of communication setup with robot peripherals
  • Knowledge of robot motion system, TCP’s and RTCP’s
  • Good understanding of mechanical systems
  • Ability to read schematics and other drawings
  • 2+ years of experience with Fanuc Robot Programming
  • Ability to read, speak, write, & understand English in a professional manner
  • Strong initiative, innovative, and keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environment 
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills; Experience working with customers to resolve problems  
  • Willingness and ability to travel 50%  
  • Must be eligible and able to travel domestically & internationally within 30 days from hire date and legally eligible to operate a vehicle, as this is an essential job function
