Software Development Project Manager

Job Description

The Software Development Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and guiding software development projects from initiation to completion. This includes managing project timelines, resources, budgets, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software products that meet business objectives. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and technical understanding of software development processes to manage teams, mitigate risks, and ensure stakeholder satisfaction. The Software Development Project Manager will be accountable to deliver projects on time, within budget, with exceptional quality, and a high level of customer satisfaction. 

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Coordination:

1. Develop comprehensive project plans outlining project scope, goals, deliverables, resources, timeline, and milestones. 
2. Work closely with stakeholders to define project requirements, priorities, and objectives. Allocate resources and manage project budgets. 
3. Organize and lead project meetings, ensuring clear communication across teams.

Team Leadership and Collaboration:

1. Lead and mentor cross-functional development teams, including software developers, designers, and testers. 
2. Assign tasks to team members based on their strengths and project requirements. 
3. Foster a collaborative and productive work environment. 
4. Address team performance issues and provide ongoing feedback and support.

Risk Management:

1. Identify potential project risks and issues, including technical challenges, resource constraints, and scope creep. 
2. Develop mitigation strategies to minimize risks and resolve conflicts promptly. 
3. Monitor project progress and adjust plans as needed to stay on track.

Progress Monitoring and Reporting:

1. Track project progress against milestones, deadlines, and budget constraints. 
2. Report project status, risks, and achievements to senior management and stakeholders regularly. 
3. Use project management tools to maintain project documentation and ensure that the team adheres to deadlines.

Quality Assurance and Delivery:

1. Ensure that the software meets technical specifications, quality standards, and user expectations. 
2. Coordinate testing and QA efforts, ensuring thorough testing and debugging before release. 
3. Ensure timely delivery of products with high quality, while maintaining customer satisfaction.

Stakeholder Management:

1. Act as the main point of contact for stakeholders, ensuring alignment between business needs and project goals. 
2. Manage stakeholder expectations and facilitate effective communication between development teams and other departments.

Compliance and Documentation:

1. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices. 
2. Maintain project documentation, including specifications, meeting notes, and change logs.

Process Improvement:

1. Continuously assess and improve project management processes, methodologies, and tools. 
2. Encourage a culture of feedback and continuous improvement within the development team.

Additional Information

Qualifications:

Education: 

1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. 
2. PMP certification or MBA is a plus

Experience Required:

1. Minimum five years of experience in project management within software development, preferably within the aerospace industry.
2. Five plus years of project management experience managing an automation project portfolio of more than $10M. 
3. Experience with project management tools. (Excel, Outlook, MS Project, Teams, ClickUp) 
4. Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team in an intentional, focused, respectful, and highly engaged manner 
5. Understanding and managing the levers to directly influence project timing, quality, and associated financial metrics (budget, utilization, margin expansion, timing, cost optimization, etc.)
6. Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
7. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities for Health, Safety and Environment include:

1. Ensure that equipment, materials, and protective devices are functioning in a safe manner
2. Ensure that employees are working in accordance with divisional health and safety procedures
3. Applies progressive discipline as appropriate for health, safety and/or environmental violations
4. Advise employees of the existence of any potential or actual health and safety risks
5. Provide appropriate instruction for safe work
6. Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of employees
7. Conduct periodic inspections and audits in accordance with legislative and/or corporate requirements
8. Conduct accident/incident investigations, prepare necessary reports and communicate to line management, health and safety personnel and health and safety committee
9. Ensure that all employees, including temporary workers and contractors, adhere to safety requirements including the use of personal protective equipment
10. Support activities and initiatives outlined by the Joint Health and Safety Committee
