Sr. Hardware Engineer
Job Description
Duties
Must be able to work in a professional engineering team-based environment. Engineering teams are responsible for the design and integration of control systems for customer applications and processes. Duties may include and are not limited to leading a team in wiring diagram design and providing technical consultation. Team members have the opportunity to learn new skills and to work in a very rewarding and fast-paced environment that varies from customer to customer.
Responsibilities
Supervision of controls hardware activities:
Project documentation
Customer/supplier meetings and presentations
Training employees on customer/project standards
Plan to execute work within established budgets
Report metrics regularly
Forecast time/resources to complete remaining work
Supervise activities of functionally assigned personnel
Execute, supervise, and verify all work performed is according to area and customer specifications and expectations
Apply special knowledge of automation, controls and robotics where applicable
Travel to customer sites as necessary for customer meetings, addressing electrical problems, or performing field checks
Technical Skills
Understand the Electrical, pneumatic and water schematics for, and complete the integration of, industrial automation systems, including:
Ability to read, understand and apply customer specifications and standards
Eplan working knowledge
System and component layouts
Determine I/O needs from mechanical switch layouts
Utilize process information from sequence of operation and timing charts
Design and configure cable layouts and interconnection diagrams
Pneumatic design concepts
Design power distribution
Design of magnetic wiring circuits
Design robot interface diagrams
Design network diagrams
Design I/O card diagrams
Verify and update component tagging and labeling
Use and verify cable charts and receptacle pinout diagrams
Ability to check your and others work
Wire gauge specifications and colors
Research and apply information from product data sheets
Cable and cable tray routing
Can properly apply document revisions and levels
Prepare wiring diagrams for customer release
Interface with in-house engineering staff
Communicate with vendors for technical information and specifications
Verify wiring diagrams with components in the field
Produce documentation, calculations and presentations
Additional Information
Education and Experience:
Seven plus years of applicable experience, that includes design of wiring diagrams for industrial controls equipment. Must have knowledge of multiple customer platforms.
Bachelor’s degree in a controls related field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent)
Experience that includes complete knowledge of all aspects of design to production, including software design and commissioning.
