Job Summary
Purchasing of a variety of commodities in accordance with the Principles of Buying to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
- Process purchasing documentation (i.e. Requisitions, Purchase Orders, Cancellation Forms, Continual Improvement Reports) in accordance with ATS policies and procedures.
- Track, monitor and maintain Purchase Order deliveries and liaise with the project team to administer changes with minimal impact to production schedules.
- Implement Purchase Orders in accordance with general framework terms and conditions agreed between ATS and suppliers.
- Negotiate prices, credit terms, discounts, and delivery arrangements with suppliers for specific project needs, in accordance with commodity strategies where possible.
- Expedite problems with suppliers and vendors regarding costs, quality, quantity, and delivery of goods purchased.
- Perform ongoing review of product, service, equipment, and expense usage to identify new opportunities for cost savings.
- Resolve invoicing discrepancies and presents to management for approval.
- Communicate with and evaluate vendors to ascertain their ability to meet company requirements, goals, and objectives.
- Stay abreast of new sources of supply for materials and services.
- Use of historical and other bench marking data to ensure competitive pricing.
- Assist in the development of cost containment, product standardization, vendor consolidation and benchmarking reports, and other supply chain management strategies that maximize value while ensuring that ATS standards are maintained or enhanced.
- Maintain item SIR records and insure items are set up correctly with proper information.
- Prepare purchase orders and send copies to suppliers and to departments originating requests.
- Review requisition orders to verify accuracy, terminology, and specifications.
- Calculate costs of orders, and charge or forward invoices to appropriate accounts.
- Contact suppliers to schedule or expedite deliveries and to resolve shortages, missed or late deliveries, and other problems.
- Respond to customer and supplier inquiries about order status, changes, or cancellations.
- Locate suppliers, using sources such as catalogs and the internet, and interview them to gather information about products to be ordered.
- Adhere to all ISO procedures and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
- Maintain product information and support outgoing shipments with critical component details.
- Support front end teams with cost information gathered from suppliers.
Skills & Experience
- A minimum of 2 years of supply chain experience.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Fundamental working knowledge of GD+T.
- A minimum of three years of purchasing experience in a custom manufacturing environment.
- Sound working knowledge of Excel, Word, and other MS Office software.
- Theoretical and hands-on knowledge of purchasing and material planning concepts.
- Proven organizational, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact in a team environment.
Qualification
- A postsecondary diploma or degree in purchasing or equivalent.
