Innovation Engineering Manager
Job Description
ROLE SUMMARY:
As an Innovation Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in driving creativity, technical excellence, and project execution within our multidisciplinary engineering teams across multiple locations. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of projects by bridging technical expertise and strategic vision. We are seeking a candidate who can lead cross-functional teams, drive innovation, and deliver impactful results.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Technical Project Support:
o Work closely with technical product managers to understand project requirements, goals, and timelines.
o Provide engineering expertise during gate process for project planning, scoping, and execution.
o Collaborate with all engineering teams to align project deliverables and staffing with business objectives.
o Responsible for overseeing and maintaining a process to support the engineering execution, procurement, and rapid build of innovation projects.
2. Team Leadership and Growth:
o Lead, grow and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team.
o Foster a collaborative environment where technical and product teams work seamlessly.
o Ensure effective communication and coordination across teams.
o Be a member of the innovation management team setting direction on strategy and business objectives.
o Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
o Adheres to all health and safety rules and procedures.
3. Innovation and Problem-Solving:
o Encourage creative thinking and exploration of novel solutions.
o Leverage ABM principles to identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and technical innovation.
o Address engineering challenges by leveraging the team’s expertise.
4. Project Execution:
o Oversee project lifecycles and team loading, from concept to delivery (NPI).
o Monitor progress, track milestones, and manage risks.
o Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve any roadblocks.
o Responsible for delivery of innovation prototypes, both in Cambridge and Kingston, with specific KPI’s around objectives
o Define and maintain daily visual management to meet stakeholder needs.
5. Strategic Alignment:
o Understand the overall business strategy and product roadmaps.
o Translate strategic goals into actionable engineering plans.
o Ensure that technical decisions align with long-term objectives.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
o Work closely with other teams (ex. Capex, marketing, applications, Illuminate, SuperTrak, etc.) to support alignment and adoption of technology.
o Facilitate communication between technical teams and product managers.
o Build strong relationships with stakeholders.
Additional Information
Qualifications:
• A post-secondary college diploma, engineering degree or equivalent, specializing in electronics, electrical, mechanical or controls engineering.
• Proven experience (10+ years) in engineering leadership and project management.
• Strong technical background in disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, software, or systems engineering.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to bridge technical and non-technical teams.
• Experience with agile methodologies and cross-functional collaboration.
Experience:
• Managing automation projects more than $5 million with multiple disciplinary teams and a proven track record of providing positive leadership.
• Well versed in manufacturing operations, regulatory compliance, and planning development – including supply-chain, procurement, drawings, planning/scheduling, and management.
• Must have a practical working knowledge of robots, PLC’s, instrumentation or other machine controls packages, sensors, and pneumatics.
• Strong communication and presentation skills are required.
