Job Description

Provides input to the design and implementation of a world-class high volume manufacturing process which meets customer and internal expectations for cost, scrap, efficiency and other key metrics.
Provides expertise in engineering, design and process and/or scale-up from the pilot build through to manufacturing scale. Assists manufacturing operation in problem solving with regards to materials, components, equipment and systems.  Develops and recommends new processes and technologies to achieve cost effectiveness and improved product quality. Involved in new product scale-up, process optimization and technology transfer. May lead team of engineers, technicians or others.

•    Responsible to plan and implement new production areas with emphasis on lean manufacturing practices.
•    Responsible for the study of the efficiencies of production tooling and the implementation of tooling improvements including modifications to current tooling and the sourcing of new, improved tooling.
•    Responsible to investigate assembly and manufacturing related problems and ensure the problem is resolved.
•    Responsible to develop solutions to production problems relating to materials, processes and tooling. 
•    Coordination and implementation of new processes or capital equipment.
•    Review of documents relating to internal rejects, customer concerns and attend corrective action meetings and assist in resolution of same.
•    Perform productivity studies and recommend/implement improvements.
•    Monitor scrap in the assigned area and co-ordinate projects to reduce scrap.
•    Develop and maintain Quality System documents in the assigned area.
•    Ensure that all business activities are performed in accordance to the ATS Confidentiality Policy
•    Stays informed on new manufacturing technologies and equipment and investigates their potential applications, where feasible and practical.
•    Training and mentoring of less-experienced department personnel.
•    Provide cost estimates for manufactured items in support of new opportunities, when required.
•    Provide input to part design relating to DFM/DFA, DFMEA and others.
•    Assist in establishing Process Quality Control Plan and inspection methods
•    Solicit, evaluate, and select (in conjunction with Supply Chain) vendors for manufactured items.
•    Work with facility personnel to ensure the production facility is fully ready to support new equipment (utilities, floor plan, etc.)
•    Launch process and equipment at the manufacturing facility, and follow up to ensure all metrics are met
•    Manage key customer interfaces to ensure the process meets expectations.
•    Contribute to "lessons learned" database in support of continuous improvement for all processes.
•    Provide technical support to internal and external customers as needed.
•    Adheres to all health and safety rules and procedures.
•    Ensure that all business activities are performed with highest ethical standards and in compliance with ATS code of business conduct.

Additional Information


  • Post-secondary college diploma or equivalent, specializing in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.


  • Minimum 5 years engineering experience in the manufacturing industry relating to equipment assembly or high volume parts manufacturing an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with other departments according to deadlines and under pressure filled conditions is essential.
  • Knowledgeable concerning the mechanical properties, machining practices, the properties of metals and the application of mathematics and dimensions to production tooling and machinery.
  • Knowledgeable concerning modern fabrication and assembly techniques and machine-shop practices and techniques.
  • Ability to use word processing, create spreadsheets/timelines and use AutoCAD and SolidWorks is a necessity.
