Mechanical Assembly Group Leader - Bench Assembly

Job Description

Major Duties: Coordinate the activities of a team of Toolmakers, Assemblers, and Apprentices involved in mechanical builds in bench assembly. Ensure that quality products are built on time, safely, and within budget.

 

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual for our Bench Assembly area. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating station-level builds for multiple projects while supervising a core team of Toolmakers, Assemblers, and Apprentices. This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

 

Key Responsibilities:

· Coordinate the activities of Toolmakers, Assemblers, and Apprentices involved in bench assembly, ensuring that work is completed on time and within budget.

· Collaborate with Group Leads and Assembly Managers to plan and achieve budget targets, aiming to stay within total labor hours

· Ensure the team works safely and achieves no lost time accidents.

· Provide constructive feedback to employees, manage performance, and promote a positive team environment. Address issues such as absenteeism, attitude, workmanship, efficiency, and work habits with the help of the Assembly Managers and Group Leads.

· Train apprentices according to ATS manufacturing standards and the Machine Tool Builder and Integrator / Millwright apprenticeship training standards. Delegate work based on skills and experience.

· Participate in reviewing objectives and continuous improvement initiatives with the team.

· Engage in the planning stage of projects with the Group Leads, Assembly Managers, and project team to understand and communicate customer needs.

· Ensure ATS standards are met during the assembly process and address any potential design problems through JIRA and our NCR process.

· Maintain a systematic method of bench assembly that ensures product and build status is identified throughout the process.

· Manage the bench assignment tracker and other key metrics within the Bench Assembly area to ensure efficient operations.

Qualifications

· Certificate of Qualification as a Machine Tool Builder and Integrator or equivalent

· Strong leadership and team management skills.

· Excellent organizational and planning abilities.

· Ability to provide constructive feedback and manage performance.

· Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

· Experience with training and developing apprentices.

· Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience in the automation systems industry.

· Familiarity with ATS manufacturing standards and procedures.
