MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Under general direction, builds, installs, and troubleshoots electrical wiring systems, electronic components, hardware and equipment with a quality and timely focus in order to build special-purpose machinery, robotic work cells and factory automation projects.

Employee responsibilities for Health, Safety and Environment include:

 

  • Work in compliance with divisional health, safety, and environmental procedures
  • Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tag out methods.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.
  • Report defect in any equipment or protective device
  • Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks.
  • Attend all required health, safety, and environmental training.
  • Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor.
  • Assist in investigating accidents/incidents.
  • Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running, or rough and boisterous conduct.

 

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Due to arc flash and shock hazards, voltage-rated gloves and 100% cotton, long-sleeve shirts must be worn at all times when working on live panels.
  • Employees must comply at all times with the specific PPE requirements identified on the ARC Flash and Shock Hazard Warning Labels (see below for your information.) These will be posted at Switchgear locations, breaker panels, bus ducts and equipment related power drops.

Additional Information

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be able to run medium to large projects with medium to high complexity.
  • Must be able to support Group Leader as a right hand and be able to fill in temporarily in Group Leaders absence.
  • Able to lead a team and push medium to large projects, or program cell/station with medium to high complexity successfully to completion.
  • Take direction from the Manager, Electrical Assembly and/or the designated Lead Electrician.
  • Using the electrical design package and customer specifications for reference; plans and coordinates work required to assemble and wire control panels, HMI’s, and other sub-assemblies.
  • Use the MRP system to check on availability of parts for the job.
  • Perform panel wiring, cell wiring and system wiring, including installation of conduits and wireways.
  • Report any issues regarding workmanship or design to the Lead Electrician or the Manager, Electrical Assembly.
  • Ensure that all print updates are being completed and that rework is properly recorded.
  • Following OHSC rules and regulations; determine power requirements for projects and install bus plugs, conduits and cord drops to transformers and/or directly to control panel disconnects.
  • Using established procedures for “Power up and Test” perform power up and electrical testing and troubleshooting of the control system in order to enable the start of integration.  Repair and/or replace defective components of the system as required.
  • Work with engineering team in concept development of medium to large projects with medium to highly complexity and provide labour estimates for manager review.
  • Work with the electrical team as well as project managers, customers, designers, toolmakers and programmers to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete and functional system.
  • Assist in providing status of completion information in order to maintain Project Status Sheets.
  • Participate in tear down and shipping of the equipment, dismantling in an orderly fashion to minimize installation time at the customers’ site.
  • Be able and willing to travel as required to the customer job site. 
  • Be an ambassador for ATS at the customer’s site, providing a quick and efficient installation of the equipment.  Follow all safety procedures according to the ATS Health and Safety Manual in addition to following any onsite customer health and safety procedures.
  • Reassemble equipment to the point of buy-off at the customer’s site.  Provide customer training when required.
  • Fill out daily site reports.
  • Work with the Manager to be a positive motivating force within the team.  Assist in training and Coordinate work for apprentices according to ATS manufacturing standards and to the standards the ministry of labour requires for their specific apprenticeship.
  • Communicate and be a channel for any constructive or objective ideas that arise, helping to keep the manufacturing standards up-to-date and at the highest level.  Use the team as a pool of technical knowledge, solving problems together efficiently.
  • Assemble and assist in testing activities related to construction of CSA B51 and CSA N285.0 pressure boundary components within the ATS Certificate of Authorization.
  • Strictly follow CSA N285/NQA Quality requirements as defined within the manual and procedures
  • Travel to customer sites as required for installation and re-integration of systems.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

 

  • A Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Electrician, a Construction and Maintenance Electrician or equivalent certifications from other Provinces or Countries.

 

Experience:

 

  • Completion of a Certificate of Apprenticeship and Certificate of Qualification in the above-mentioned trades. Proven demonstration of skills outlined in the Specific Responsibilities will qualify you for the Senior Electrician position.

The compensation offered will be based on the local job market and may vary depending on factors such as the job-related knowledge, skills, experience of the selected candidate, as well as other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
