Senior Manager, International Tax

 

OPPORTUNITY

 

The successful candidate will join a growing tax team at ATS, a Canadian headquartered company with operations in North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania, to lead and manage ATS’ global tax risk, defining new and/or adjusting current tax strategies and group structures to optimize the ATS group’s worldwide tax positions. The role involves proactive management of all aspects of the Canadian taxation of ATS’ foreign affiliates and the OECD Pillar Two requirements, and end-to-end involvement in the company’s M&A activities from tax due diligence to post-merger integration. The position requires a skilled tax professional with experience in international tax, who possesses strong tax accounting skills and a passion for continuous improvement including the implementation and use of tax technology.

MAJOR DUTIES

 

Along with members of the Corporate Tax team, work closely with other corporate functions and business unit finance leaders to:

 

  • Develop and implement effective multi-jurisdictional tax strategies that maximize shareholder value through the optimization of ATS’ consolidated tax expense and cash tax liability while ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
  • Provide tax advice with respect to ATS’ activities in M&A, legal entity reorganizations, and intercompany financing.
  • Prepare the quarterly and annual tax provision (current and deferred) for foreign entities in accordance with IFRS.
  • Lead the compliance process for foreign subsidiaries, including FAPI calculations, annual foreign affiliate reporting requirements and surplus calculations, among others.
  • Identify, research and resolve complex multi-jurisdictional tax issues (FAPI, withholding tax, and tax treaties).
  • Keep abreast of tax legislative developments to determine impact to ATS, and design and implement processes to comply with the new requirements.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
     

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:

 

  • A university degree in finance or accounting and/or a professional accounting designation is preferred, as is knowledge of IFRS and/or US GAAP. 

 

Skills and Experience:

 

  • 6+ years of full-time tax experience in a multi-national corporate group and/or in a major accounting firm.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian federal income tax concepts and tax treaties, with a specialization in Canada’s foreign affiliate rules.
  • Strong tax accounting knowledge and extensive experience with the preparation of consolidated tax provision and note disclosures.
  • High-level working knowledge of the local tax laws of foreign jurisdictions where the ATS group operates (Germany, Italy, UK, and US in particular).
  • Strong communication skills (both in oral and written form) including the ability to explain complex technical tax concepts in a simple manner.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and guidance in a team-oriented environment.
  • Superior organizational, project management and leadership skills. The individual must be comfortable in a growing, dynamic business environment and be able to operate with a hands-on approach.
