Technical Nuclear Applications Engineer

Major Duties
- Creates and develops innovated concepts for nuclear applications and detailed proposals for potential customers. Manages a proposal development team and performs a wide range of mechanical and electrical engineering functions in support of technical project planning. Provides technical expertise to the project execution team and project manager.
Specific Responsibilities
- Responsible for detailed project planning, including conceptual development, costing, scheduling, assessing risk, and writing detailed technical proposals for all types of nuclear applications.
- Assists engineers and other technical staff in design and development of products, systems, processes, and equipment by analyzing technical problems and working closely to customer specifications proposing winning solutions.
- Integrates third party vendors and suppliers into the project as needed. Keeps up to date with the latest technology and innovations in the industry.
- Utilizes computer aided design, simulation, spreadsheets, and project management software to create detailed technical proposals.
- Clearly defines scope and deliverables and concisely communicates with the project team and customer.
- Obtains and prepares detailed estimates of time, quantities, labour and material costs required for work areas such as; product design, testing, machine building, equipment installations and manufacturing processes.
- Travels to the customer’s site to assist in project or product development, working with engineering design specifications, objectives and standards.
- Works with Sales to create and deliver presentations to potential clients when required.
- May be assigned special projects in support of engineering and sales & marketing, as required.
- May be assigned small conceptual studies working with a customer ahead of a formal project kick off.
- Support the business unit quality system by maintaining QA procedures and participating in departmental audits as required.
- Advocate and foster a team environment within both the department and throughout the business unit.
- Act as the customer technical liaison during the pre-order process, in cooperation with the Sales Manager.
- Responsible for complete and accurate solution development and presentation to clients in response to RFQ or in fulfillment of account strategy.
- Analyze material and write in clear, concise language for initial draft. Select, organize, edit and revise proposal.
- Ensure that the proposal is sent to the customer by the most efficient route to ensure it arrives on or before the deadline date.
- Emphasize continuous improvement as a long term goal and implement procedures and programs to achieve continuous improvement.
- Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
- Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.
Qualifications
Education
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Systems, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Design, or equivalent is required.
Experience
- Three years’ experience in mechanical or electrical engineering support, preferably in an nuclear automation environment.
- Must have a working knowledge of robotics, machine controls and manufacturing processes and be able to keep abreast of leading-edge technology.
- In addition, must be familiar with the use of computerized word processing & computerized spreadsheets and AutoCAD. SolidWorks or similar drawing package.
- An ability to present ideas, concepts and pricing information in a clear, concise manner suitable for technical audiences is essential.
- Understanding of welding and machining processes.
