Job Description
MAJOR DUTIES:
As a member of the Technology and Products Group leadership team, the Controller is responsible for the financial management of two divisions for a world-leading automation company. This role is a critical business partner to the Vice President and other leadership team members to support driving double digit growth targets.
Through the leadership of a small accounting team, the Division Controller is responsible for all financial reporting, forecasting and budgeting processes for assigned divisions. They will ensure that all operating results are reported accurately on a timely basis and in accordance with company policies. This role has accountability for many aspects of public company obligations including compliance to IFRS and Bill 198/Sarbanes-Oxley.
The Controller is responsible for accurate financial modeling and for proactive management of any financial risks. They will identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to simplify and automate processes across cross-functional teams.
The ideal candidate is results-driven and willing to take a hands-on approach to solving opportunities that come with an organization in the scale up stage. They have a strong ability to forecast and collaboratively implement contingency plans cross-functionally. They lead with exceptional characteristics of human-centered leadership and conduct themselves in a self-directed manner with a growth-oriented mindset.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
FINANCIAL REPORTING AND ACCOUNTING
· Direct the month-end close process, supported by a small team of Financial Analysts. Review, interpret and communicate divisional results in accordance with the timelines provided
· Oversee and perform accounting duties in all areas of the full cycle accounting processes including accounts receivable, cash management, capital assets, accruals, cost of goods sold, selling & admin expenses and commodity taxes
· Develop accurate monthly forecasts of all financial metrics including sales, EBIT, working capital, cash flow and capital spending
· Monitor working capital and cash flow weekly. Identify opportunities for improvement including helping to drive contract payment terms or other levers
· Lead the review of any technical accounting issues working with Corporate as needed, including capitalization of intangibles and judgmental reserves
INTERNAL CONTROL, POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
· Responsible for the effectiveness of internal controls and compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and government regulations including Bill 198/Sarbanes-Oxley
· Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct and other policies
BUSINESS AND LEADER SUPPORT
· Own the development of the financial aspects of the Annual Operating Plans
· Conduct Financial Planning & Analysis including business opportunity modeling and ROI calculations
· Provide financial and analytical support to commercial and engineering activities within the division
· Work with the Vice President to develop, implement and monitor KPIs for the division
· Ensure that the ERP system at the division level adequately meets the business needs in terms of transactional processing and financial reporting
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
· Bachelor’s degree in finance or related field
· CPA or equivalent preferred
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
· Minimum 8 years of experience in planning and analysis role ideally with direct responsibility for financials
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in leadership role or management team
· Strong analytical, financial and accounting skills, as well as an ability to significantly contribute to the management of the company
· Significant budgeting and forecasting experience is an asset
· Ability to work with minimal supervision and guidance in a team-oriented environment
· Effective communicate skills, with people at all levels within and outside of the organization, both orally and in writing
· Experience with process design and implementation in accounting area
· Demonstrated strong understanding IFRS and internal controls
· Experience working in a large multi-national company is preferred
· Advanced knowledge of Excel, Microsoft products and ERP systems (Oracle’s JD Edwards or OneStream is a plus)
· Experience in a manufacturing company and/or publicly traded company experience is preferred
