Electrical Controls Engineer

ATS Scientific Products is searching for a Lead, Electrical/Controls Engineer to join the team.

 

The Lead Electrical/Control Engineer provides experienced technical input in the Electrical and Controls Engineering discipline for the design, implementation and support of the products, devices, and services provided by Scientific Products for the appropriate markets and industries. Responsibilities include technical and industry knowledge, support of safety and quality programs, involvement in productivity initiatives, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills in coordination with all aspects of the business, both internal and external.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage team of controls and electrical engineers in delivering projects for internal and external customers, managing the work, focus and time both in house and at customer sites to complete the given project.
  • Drive discipline in use of design pathway and tools, and phase gate processes to help eliminate scope creep, errors and deliver improved customer experiences. Providing the team with regular coaching and feedback to help on this journey.
  • Develop and maintain standard blocks of code under revision control, qualified and tested, ready for reuse on the next suitable system.
  • Generate required documentation including, but not limited to: Functional Specifications (FS), Hardware Design Specifications (HDS), and Software Design Specifications (SDS) to meet project and GAMP5 requirements.
  • Perform programming activities for the product 'Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) devices.
  • Perform Value analysis and sustaining engineering tasks, and product improvement designs for enhanced manufacture, productivity, reliability, safety, quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Perform New Product Development activities to ensure end products meet customer needs and specifications.
  • Perform Order Engineering and design and development activities to ensure end products meet customer needs and specifications.

Lead Responsibilities

  • The team lead should have a high degree of technical proficiency in their job.
  • They should be well-respected amongst their peers for their technical skills and knowledge. This helps to motivate co-workers from a peer-to-peer standpoint.
  • Team lead takes direction from their supervisor or manager and communicates and divvies-up the tasks or projects to other team members based on their skills and talents.
  • Team lead is responsible for submitting final projects to the department supervisor; they track progress, monitor tasks and ensure deadlines are met before submitting to their supervisor.
  • Team lead provides on-the-job training and new-hire orientations on departmental processes and systems.
  • Team lead provides day-to-day operational guidance, and because of their technical skills, they are more likely to have a better understanding of the applications and equipment used in performing specific job tasks.
  • Team lead provides coaching and mentoring employees. They have the skills and leadership capabilities to understand the job tasks and what it takes to be an excellent worker.

Qualifications/Education & Experience

  • 4 year technical degree; a BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is preferred
  • Previous Engineering Experience required
  • Proficient with SCADA software and HMI software such as Wonderware, GE iFix or FactoryTalk View.
  • Experienced with CAD software systems such as AutoCAD or Solidworks is essential.
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft products.
  • You must have experience with capital equipment or engineered to order products is required.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, organizational and communication skills
  • It would be beneficial to have experience with validation procedures and change control procedures within an FDA regulated environment.
  • Experience with a Quality Management System based on the ISO standard is a plus.

  • Work is normally performed in both the office and the shop
  • The office environment is an interior office with air conditioning
  • The shop contains mobile equipment, machinery, and high voltages.
  • The shop noise level is variable and may require hearing protection in some areas.
  • The shop is heated when required but many areas are not air conditioned
  • Some shop processes use high voltage arcs or concentrated magnetic fields.
  • The shop contains open flames and caustic chemicals
  • Some shop areas may be designate hard hat zones.

  • Provide information, instruction and supervision to employees
  • Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of employee
