Job Description

Summary

•    To provide mechanical development support to the development team and to production.  
•    To manufacture hardware to specifications and plans. 
•    To report findings to responsible engineer
 

Key tasks

•    To ensure the R&D workshop is run in a safe manner, undertaking risk assessments when appropriate and before any activity that might expose personnel to danger
•    Build prototype parts to given designs within tolerances stated and report any changes required to drawings
•    Set up test rigs for safety and lifetime testing of development parts
•    To prepare test reports in MS Office or similar to clearly summarise findings of tests undertaken
•    Contribute to product design
•    Keep the R&D workshop clean and tidy
•    Maintain stocks of components as appropriate to the requirements of mechanical development

Essential Skills:

•    Ability to work unsupervised and methodically to identify potential design issues
•    Ability to use equipment in machine shop correctly and safely, this includes operation of mill and lathe
•    Experience of all appropriate test equipment
•    Some IT literacy required, particularly MS Excel and Outlook
•    Ability to communicate test findings clearly through discussions with engineers and creation of documentation
