Director of Operations


The Director of Operations will lead a group of departments: Supply Chain, Material Control, Sci Ops, Facilities, Project Management, Continuous Improvement, Quality & HSE along with all Assembly and Manufacturing personnel. 

 

This position will provide both strategic and tactical directions to all these team members with responsibility for all product and project-based execution activities with emphasis on safety, quality delivery, and productivity from pre-PO through full life cycle of equipment in the field with support to the customer service team. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
•    Lead department leaders and/or supervisors for all department objectives for all operational teams assigned to this role.
•    Serves as part of the senior leadership team and provides guidance / direction to both strategic and tactical business decisions required. 
•    Operational P&L responsibility of $35M yearly revenue business with intense focus on safety, quality, delivery, and productivity. 
•    Strive for continuous improvement in tools, practices, quality, and lead time within all aspects of execution and processes. Use of ABM (ATS Business Model) is critical to achieving business results assigned to this role and the reporting departments.
•    Leverage ABM to mature and strengthen key processes in the business. 
•    Execute strategic ABM / continuous improvement activities including Kaizen / PSE (problem solving exercises) across all departments to elevate business performance. 
•    Partner with department leaders to review KPI’s and use daily visual management to build improvement activity funnel. 
•    Drive daily business activities and achieve targets set forth via AOP (annual operating plan) to elevate performance levels. 
•    Support leadership team both local and corporate with all transfer of resources or technology requests, resource development, team development, and be a robust reliable voice for the business to count on with transparent, ethical, and direct interactions across all levels of the organization.
•    Identify and repair all weaknesses and issues in a transparent manner for business to address in a proactive manner through risk management.
•    Drive CAPEX plans to completion through proactive planning with Controller and GM.
•    Oversight to all capacity and resource loading including approving overtime to budgets, temporary staff, and permanent hiring approvals.
•    Maintain all equipment around the facility to PM schedules. 
•    Full responsibility for all facility related activities including coordinating with 3rd party contractors to ensure all work is completed in a timely manner. 
•    Drive apprentice and university recruiting with specific focus on building an internal promotion environment from technical colleges through senior management.
•    ISO and HSE complete management of all systems, audits, continuous improvement, conformance, and reporting as well as corrective actions where applicable. Drive towards securing ISO9001 certification for the business. Assure 100% compliance with training on time for all employees.
•    Support Customer Dialog in the production of new quotes along with using VoC (voice of customer) to drive improvement within the business. 
•    Technical Liaison with other ATS divisions

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering, or B.S. equivalent Engineering field, Purchasing or Business Management.
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in an Operational and/or Site leadership role with multi-discipline reports (medical or pharmaceutical automation preferred).
  • Strong CAD proficiency, Leadership, team development, resource management, and continuous improvement skills required.
  • Strong working knowledge of computer programs such as SolidWorks, ERP systems such as JD Edwards, PLM software, Windows, Excel, MS Outlook and Pipedrive.
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication and assembly machinery including inspection tools.
  • Strong background in lean, continuous improvement, and various certifications a plus.
