Job Description

The Systems Architect (SA) works directly with the Commercial Team and is responsible for leading large, custom, and/or special projects from beginning to end.  Specific responsibilities include scoping, pricing and presenting projects to internal teams and to customers.  The SA will work with sales, project management, engineering staff, and the customer support team in a role that owns method development, protocol optimization, FAT/SAT and training.  For avoidance of doubt, the SA will work directly with Field Sales and headquarters-based and remote teams. The Systems Architect will be utilized to effectively communicate project details back to the post-sales group, and to provide continuity between the pre- and post-sales phases of systems assigned to them. An SA will work with an assigned Project Manager to properly plan a project and to ensure that the project is planned so that updates on progress and timing are communicated to the customer in a professional manner.  



•    Holistically leads special projects and is ultimately responsible for customer success.
•    Conduct hardware and software customer demonstrations.
•    Attend, assist and in some cases prepare applicable sales presentations and meetings.
•    Proposal writing to address customer requirements and agreement on deliverables.
•    Develop application-specific protocols on BioDot products by interpreting procedures provided by the customer or BioDot Sales team. 
•    Perform troubleshooting of application protocols on instrumentation.
•    Develop application-specific protocols for complex automated instrumentation, which require integration with third party devices.
•    Supply required paperwork to define custom hardware for the in-house production team.
•    Provides User Guides and System Specific Documentation as needed to support customer and Support staff.
•    Work directly with internal team members in the pre-sales phase to develop concepts that satisfy User Requirement Specifications and clearly define project scope.
•    Provide continuity between pre and post sales phases to optimize the customer’s BioDot experience.
•    Maintain support for existing customers by providing additional application protocols, training, etc. 
•    Document application support work and customer visits within a company database or other required format.
•    Work as part of a cross-functional global support team which includes daily interaction with design engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, production personnel and sales team members.
•    Develop and deliver training material for BioDot Customers, Service and Applications team.
•    Work independently and make intelligent decisions based on experience and knowledge.
•    Maintain professional relationships with customers and co-workers.
•    When required, travels for SAT, training and applications support of instruments to customer locations.

Additional Information


Education and/or Experience
•    Must have a BA/BS in Science, or similar subject
•    Experience taking scientific bench protocols from the bench to the robot is required. 
•    Experience with capital scientific equipment, specifically experience specifying, programming, and related data handling required for large/complex integrated systems is required.
•    Experience in high throughput lab/production environments is a plus.
•    Must have good written and verbal skills including group presentation experience. Needs to clearly communicate technical and nontechnical concepts in a group setting.
•    Must have at least 2 years of applications development experience on complex/large integration laboratory automation platforms.
•    Must have good planning and customer skills and be able to demonstrate them to an audience.
•    Project Management experience preferred.
•    Excellent customer interaction skills, verbal and written communication, PC skills (Office, database usage, help desk software), and organizational abilities are required.
•    Up to 50% domestic and international travel may be required.
