Intermediate Mechatronics Designer (Kingston)

 

Job Description

MAJOR DUTIES:

Develop new mechatronic products and features that give ATS a competitive advantage in the market. The primary focus is on expanding the portfolio of ATS Innovations. These mechatronic products require a strong combination of mechanics, electronics, controls and software. The primary focus of this role is on mechanics but solutions require a multi-disciplinary approach. Duties cover generating new concepts, designing and validating prototypes, finalizing production designs and assisting in the transfer of new innovations to sales and production. 

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Generate concepts for new mechatronic products and features that solve identified customer problems/needs.
•    Perform engineering calculations and/or simulations to validate new concepts.
•    Generate detailed designs for prototypes ensuring all purchased and manufactured parts meet acceptable cost/performance/delivery. Support operations in the build of prototypes.
•    Develop test plans for prototypes and either execute the test plan or support others that are performing the test plan.
•    Analyze prototype results, mitigate risks and resolve the unknowns. Get agreement on final designs both internally and with customers and finalize production designs.
•    Support Sales and Operations during the transfer to production of new products/innovations.
•    Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures.
•    Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

•    A post secondary diploma or degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Systems Design or equivalent.

Experience:

•    Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD doing mechanical product design, preferably AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
•    Experience generating innovative new concepts that lead to winning solutions in production environments.
•    Rapid prototyping.
•    Capability in these areas would be an asset: materials, precision, thermal, deflection, vibration, magnetics, real time controls, sensors.
•    Able to work as part of a team.
