Software Developer (Kingston Innovation)


Job Description


As a key member of the Innovation Group, you will develop software for products such as the ATS SuperTrak® linear mover transport platform & the ATS Symphoni™ platform. Responsibilities include gathering user requirements, software design, programming, testing and release. Other duties include level 2 support as needed, assisting customers when integrating new software features and specialized training for advanced users.


•    Perform software development as part of a team including gathering user requirements, software design, programming, testing, and release. These are mechatronics products requiring real-time controls, Windows based configuration tools, simulation software and tight integration with robotic assembly lines.
•    Participate in weekly iterative meetings reviewing last week’s progress and planning upcoming week.
•    Contribute to major software release plans that align with the technology roadmap.
•    Collaborate with mechatronics designers, hardware designers, FPGA designers and operations personnel to ensure the complete solution meets performance, reliability and cost requirements.
•    Deliver software on time and within budget.
•    Ensure software performance, quality and customer satisfaction meets or exceeds expectations.
•    Perform level 2 customer support as needed. This is typically phone support with travel as required.
•    Assist with the generation of software related product documentation.
•    Perform specialized training for advanced users leveraging new software features. 
•    Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
•    These responsibilities are subject to change as a function of the individuals abilities.
•    Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.


•    A post-secondary engineering or computer science degree, diploma or equivalent with an emphasis on software design and development.

Relevant Experience:
•    Software development (C/C++, .NET, IEC 1131-3).
•    Familiar with issue-tracking and revision-control systems.
•    Experience with real time controls is an asset.
•    Problem solving skills with systems involving software, electronics and mechanics.
•    Working knowledge of electronic test equipment is an asset.
•    Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
•    A self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
