Group Lead, Assembly

Job Description




Coordinate the activities of a group of Automation Technicians in assembly phase of a project. Ensure the assembly team uses safe work habits and maintains a clean and organized work area throughout the entire project.  Adhere to all established procedures as defined by ATS Quality Procedures, Process Flows, Work Instructions, Safety Procedures, and the Employee Handbook.



Project Organization Responsibilities:




  • Work with Project Manager to develop all project assembly plans, including build, debug, pre-FAT, FAT, install, and SAT
  • With the help of Assembly Manager, plan work to effectively manage overtime to departmental budget requirements
  • Communicate and work with Project Managers to facilitate the execution of all project assembly plans
  • Work with Project Manager to assign resources for scheduled and unscheduled work to meet the project schedule and budget requirements
  • Create and maintain project task lists with input from the lead technician
  • Provide Project Manager with assembly progress updates as needed
  • Work with project manager to develop plans for customer parts, kit requests, electrical panel build, equipment tear down, and shipping
  • Updating task lists on a weekly basis



Supervisory Tasks:




  • Able to lead a team and push a large and highly complex project or program successfully to completion
  • Directly lead and supervise a team of Electrical and/or Mechanical Assembly team members
  • Be a mentor to your team to help develop necessary skills to strengthen the assembly team
  • Assist Assembly Manager with developing improved assembly procedures, methods, and tools
  • Must be able to support other Group Leaders as a right hand and be able to fill in temporarily in Group Leaders absence
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals and provide appropriate job specific performance feedback including corrective actions
  • In collaboration with the Assembly Manager work to effectively manage and approve labor hours and overtime in alignment with departmental budget requirements
  • Create a team environment working with your group to be a positive, motivating force
  • Work on their team’s motivation to achieve team goals; Coordinate the team’s activities and communicates with the Assembly Manager
  • Deliver corrective action as required
  • Establish Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) when needed 
  • Responsible for completing establishing the goals for Automation Technicians and completing their personnel evaluations
  • Provide necessary floor supervision and conflict resolution
  • Departmental interface with Purchasing/ME/EE/CE
  • Other duties assigned






  • Minimum of an Associate degree in Automated Manufacturing, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or Electronic Engineering is preferred but not required. 





  • A minimum of five years experience in an automation/manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • A working knowledge of PC based Microsoft applications for business is required.
  • Outstanding commitment level with a technical aptitude or background required.
  • Knowledge of mechanical drawings and practices, electrical diagrams and schematics, pneumatics and general assembly procedures is essential.
  • Must have ability to work with and communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
