Senior Staff Accountant

Job Description



This position will support various aspects of finance and accounting with an emphasis on project costs. This position requires solid accounting experience combined with strong analytical skills. The individual will need to possess strong problem-solving skills, work ethic, ability to work with minimal supervision, organizational skills, attention to detail, decision making skills and ability to work with others. This position will also require general accounting responsibilities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals. Adhere to all established procedures as defined by SOX, ATS Quality Procedures, Process Flows, Work Instructions, Safety Procedures, and the Employee Handbook.



Financial Reporting and Accounting



  • Responsible for the day-to-day preparation and management of most journal entries.
  • Responsible for reconciliation of accounts.
  • Complete and analyze the income statement.
  • Complete and analyze the Balance Sheet.
  • Prepare forecast cash flows weekly
  • Responsible for the preparation of the monthly Metrics Report.
  • Annually count the fixed assets and inventory and evaluate for potential impairment of fixed assets and inventory.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly General Ledger and supplementary reports.
  • Maintain/update the write-ups compliant with SOX requirements.
  • Support internal and external auditors as required.
  • Lead or support ad-hoc accounting projects as needed
  • Participate in the yearly planning process



Internal Control, Policies and Procedures



  • Ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to in a consistent manner within the division and that the financial reporting standards are applied consistently.
  • Regularly review policies and procedures with Divisional Controller and accounting team, to develop an ATS best practice approach for the financial management of the company.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the safeguarding of company assets.







Education:  A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or an equivalent business degree, CPA preferred





  • Previous exposure to Percentage of Completion Accounting a definite asset
  • Exposure to a manufacturing or job cost accounting environment is preferable
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization both verbal and in written
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong analytical, financial reporting and accounting skills as well superior computer skills (advanced knowledge of Excel, JDE experience a definite asset)
  • Must be hands-on, detail and results-oriented and able to consistently meet deadlines
