Nuclear Services Programmer/Site Lead

Role Overview

We don’t just design tooling and hand it off—we follow it through its entire lifecycle, from early development to on site execution inside operating nuclear facilities, and then back again to make it better the next time around.

Nuclear Services acts as the bridge between engineering, operations, and our nuclear customers, providing trusted expertise when it matters most. Because nuclear projects are often outage based and time critical, our team plays a key role in ensuring tooling is reliable, well maintained, and ready to perform when the window is tight.

You will work closely with the customer and ATS engineering teams to support the design, installation, commissioning, startup, validation, and ongoing operation of our customer's Automation System. You will act as the primary local ATS technical representative, providing customer-facing support, coordinating home-office resources, and delivering hands-on controls and automation expertise.

You will coordinate cross-functional teams in completing warranty and service work, including upgrades and modifications, in alignment with direction from the Capex team, while taking responsibility for controls software development, troubleshooting, commissioning support, customer communications, and coordination of technical support activities throughout the lifecycle of the automation system.

Specific Responsibilities

Customer Interface & Technical Leadership
•    Serve as the primary ATS technical contact for the customer site and be a regular presence on site. 
•    Build and maintain strong customer relationships through professional communication and responsiveness.
•    Represent ATS in customer meetings and technical discussions. Support resolution of customer concerns by coordinating with ATS engineering, service, and project teams.
•    Escalate technical issues and coordinate additional ATS resources when required.
•    Provide regular updates to ATS and customer stakeholders regarding system performance, risks, and issues.
•    Act as the local liaison between the customer and ATS engineering teams in North America and Europe. Support local Swedish personnel and facilitate effective communication between customer       operations and ATS subject matter experts.
•    Support customer training and knowledge transfer activities.

PLC & Robot Programming Support
•    Develop, modify, test, and troubleshoot Siemens PLC control systems.
•    Support integration with ABB 800xA systems and plant automation infrastructure.
•    Support integration between PLCs, robots, HMIs, SCADA systems, vision systems, warehouse automation, and AMR systems.
•    Perform software validation, testing, and implementation activities.
•    Maintain software backups, change records, and configuration control documentation.
•    Support automation system upgrades, continuous improvement initiatives, and optimization activities.
•    Execute commissioning, startup, SAT, and production support activities.
•    Troubleshoot automation system issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
•    Identify technical risks and contribute to project decision-making.
•    Establish and manage a software change request process to maintain code alignment across repeat cells and programs, ensure software revisions remain current, and support implementation of         updates.
•    Performing other duties as assigned.

Documentation & Reporting
•    Generate clear technical reports, troubleshooting records, commissioning reports, and issue logs.
•    Document software modifications, operational improvements, and corrective actions.
•    Maintain accurate turnover and communication records between ATS and customer teams.
•    Support compliance documentation and quality records required for nuclear projects.

Qualifications

Education
•    Post-secondary degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or related education.

Experience
•    Strong Siemens PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
•    Experience integrating PLC, HMI, SCADA, robotics, field devices, and industrial networks.
•    ABB Robot and Cognex Vision experience 
•    Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
•    Minimum of 5 years of experience working directly with customers in a technical support or commissioning role.
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills
•    Project engineering and/or project management experience is an asset.

Nuclear & Regulatory Knowledge
•    Familiarity with nuclear quality standards and controlled work processes.
•    Understanding of 10CFR810 requirements 
•    Eligible to obtain customer site access and eligible for 10CFR810 qualified.
•    Understanding of Nuclear industry quality programs, documentation and traceability requirements.
•    Familiarity with CSA, N299, NQA-1, ISO 9001, or equivalent quality standards is considered an asset.

Language & International Support
•    Ability to work effectively in an international project environment, willingness to travel internationally as required.
•    Experience supporting customers remotely and on-site across multiple time zones.
•    Ability to collaborate with local Swedish support personnel, contractors, and customer representatives. Swedish language capability is a requirement.
•    Strong communication and customer facing skills are essential.
•    Ability to work independently in a customer-facing role with minimal supervision.
