What is the role of a Manufacturing Team Leader?

  •     Perform administrative and functional duties for the Fabrication Department.
  •     Provide leadership and supervise members of the Fabrication Department and coordinate their activities. 
     

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

 

Coordinating Fabrication Department employee’s workloads:

  •     Assign, monitor, and balance team workload (schedule, portfolios, capacity planning, etc.)        
  •     Monitoring any issues, ensuring production targets, quality standards are met in order to meet the requirements of the customers.  

 

Providing support to ensure that the team delivers:

  •     Plan, maintain and achieve facility priorities to provide timely and cost-effective delivery of final product.
  •     Assist the team with preparation and processing of parts for the “Outside Services” and in-house fabrication, including piece counts, required records and subsequent movement to appropriate area.

 

Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s):  

  •     Meet with team members and advise on ways to achieve and maintain KPI’s and improve skills.          

 

Monitor equipment/tool repairs and calibration; make suggestions for improvements including the purchase of new equipment or introduction of new technology.


Communicate with, evaluate, and approve suppliers to ascertain their ability to meet company requirements, goals, and objectives.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Associate degree in specialized production field or engineering.
  • Two-three (2-3) years’ experience in a fabrication environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Excel.
  • Individual must have an ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with people at all levels of the organization, both verbally and in written form.
  • Proven organizational and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives on a cross functional team.
  • Highly motivated, customer-focused team player and innovator.
  • Ability to interpret schedules and assign workload.
  • Basic knowledge of fabrication/machine shop and assembly processes, including inspection tools, CNC, lathes and grinders.
  • Basic knowledge of material handling equipment.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

 

  • The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Able to stand and bend for long periods of time in a warehouse environment.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
  • Visual acuity – Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens.
  • Hearing ability – Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions.
  • Working conditions – The employee is subject to a manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and exposure to physical hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts and electrical current.
  • Capable of wearing appropriate related PPE for extended periods of time.
