Production Stock Replenishment (Water Spider)

Lean manufacturing is a methodology that focuses on minimizing waste within manufacturing systems while simultaneously maximizing productivity. A Water Spider is a Lean production personnel role centered around timely and accurate stock replenishment. The Water Spider checks kits for accuracy to bill of materials (BOM’s) and to assemblies. This role is also responsible for unwrapping parts in those kits and prepping them for assembly by Builders. The Water Spider is tasked with working between Shipping and Receiving, Assembly, Manufacturing, Engineering and Purchasing.

  • Ensure that required parts are always available at the agreed place and time.
  • Prevent production stops due to lack of material.
  • Constant attention to improvement.
  • Maintains a safe, organized and efficient work area.
  • Must have a high sense of urgency.
  • Coordinate and prioritize the prepping of kits.
  • Daily Visual Management (DVM) of bulk stock and tubing carts.
  • Report existing or pending part shortages to Assembly Manager.
  • Assist with the verification of completeness and correctness of delivered kits. 
  • Unwrap and prep kits for assembly.
  • Assist with delivery of materials to 5S racks.
  • Issues or distributes materials, products, parts and supplies to appropriate departments or individuals, based on information from incoming requisitions.
  • Receive and maintain certification of proper forklift operation license, and perform daily safety checks.



  • High school diploma required.
  • Two – five (2-5) years’ experience in an inventory controls or process flow of a manufacturing environment.
  • One – two (1-2) years’ experience with Windows operating system including Microsoft Office.
  • A valid driver license; commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus.    
  • Fork lift, packing hardware and supplies, scales, shipping software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, work station computer.



  • The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently. 
  • Visual acuity – Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens
  • Hearing ability – Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions. 
  • Working conditions – The employee is subject to a normal office environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor. 
  • Capable of wearing appropriate related PPE for extended periods of time.
