Service Controls Engineer

Job Description


Develop and program retrofits and upgrades of automated equipment hardware and software according to customer and internal specification of legacy equipment.  Lead large multi-module custom systems. 

  • Lead the development of Controls architecture system retrofits and optimize performance expectations.
  • Program control systems for cam, servo, and air operated stations, along with test and electrical devices.
  • Ensure the electrical design is functional, robust, and cost effective.
  • Research and specify appropriate components.
  • Create electrical wiring schematics, flow diagrams, panel layouts, Bill of Materials (BOM), organize release packages, and update schematics.
  • Participate in internal and customer design reviews, installations, and service calls when needed.
  • Provide estimates for controls engineering hours to design retrofits and upgrades on existing machines according to customer and internal specification
  • Guide Electricians in wiring and codes.  Support software validation requirements.
  • Work with suppliers to find/develop the most functional and economical solutions to design issues.
  • Problem-solve with Mechanical Builders; debug software issues, and update all appropriate documentation.
  • Work closely with Mechanical Engineering and Build; exhibit objectivity and openness to other views.
  • Support and participate in Quality Management Program.
  • Provide necessary documentation and support for machinery Operating Manuals.
  • Make recommendations for quality and cost improvements. 
  • Keeps abreast of current product developments.
  • Domestic or International travel or extend workday as required.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Information



  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Six+ years of automation experience.
  • Proficient with Allen Bradley PLC’s, HMI’s, Servo control, and Electrical design.
  • Well versed in Eplan, AutoCAD, Solid Works
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Skilled in the use of fax machines, copiers and printers/plotters, etc.
  • Versed in the use of inspection and measuring tools such as scales, calipers, micrometers, multi-meters, dB meters, etc.
