Manufacturing Manager

Job Description

Responsible for the implementation of strategy and the development of policies and control systems for the assembly of value-added factory automation projects.


  • Verify available budget for work to be performed.  Report monthly metrics to General Manager and enact corrective actions when appropriate to correct negative trends in budget performance. 
  • Review the expected bookings report regularly and maintain a planning horizon.
  • Verify available schedule for work to be performed.  Report monthly metrics to General Manager and enact corrective actions when appropriate to correct negative trends in schedule performance.
  • Attend regularly scheduled Director meetings, project kick-off meetings, scheduling meetings and Project Status meetings and plan department activities based on the requirements of the operation.
  • Plan work distribution to managers based on workload and skills. 
  • Hold meetings to review goals/continuous improvement initiatives with your Managers. 
  • Responsible for department size and meeting established utilization targets.  
  • Recommend an organization structure for the department that aligns with corporate strategy.
  • Execute Manager level hires and mobility decisions as authorized by General Manager.
  • Reinforce the performance culture set by the General Manager in terms of setting expectations, providing coaching/feedback and reviewing the performance of direct reports.  Produce succession candidates for the Director role using the ATS process.
  • Report and ensure compliance to quality standards (workmanship standards, process requirements, appearance, safety, re-work, branding) through monthly reporting.  
  • Create continuous improvement teams to meet continuous improvement targets set by General Manager.  
  • Accountable for the health and safety of employees under his supervision by ensuring that machinery and equipment are safe, making sure that employees work in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures and providing adequate training for employees in specific work tasks to help reduce or eliminate the risk of workplace injuries.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • All managers are responsible for creating a positive safety culture and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. It is the responsibility of each manager to ensure that employees receive regular training regarding health, safety and environmental matters.  Each manager is also accountable to ensure that HSE matters are addressed in a timely manner and that compliance with both legislative and corporate requirements are maintained.

Additional Information



  • A grade 12 diploma specializing in drafting and machine shop or equivalent is required.
  • Associate Technical Degree or experience in an automation/manufacturing environment is preferred
  • College level Management / supervisory / leadership training would be considered an asset


  • Ten years of hands-on experience in the assembly and integration of custom factory automation projects.  Previous management / supervisory experience considered an asset.
