Senior Financial Analyst

Summary

The Senior Financial Analyst, ATS Global Services USA Inc. will operate in a critical supporting / business partnering role for this division.  The US Division is comprised of 2 main operating groups: our North America Service Center and our US Regional Service Network, as well as several cost centers.  Reporting to the Finance Manager, Global Services, you will be responsible for project oversight, financial reporting, financial planning and analysis activities for this division.  You will have a strong dotted line relationship to our Division Director, North America Service Center, our Director, US Regional Network, and will also build strong relationships with the broader US and Global Services Team members.  As our group continues to evolve service offerings to our customers by providing best-in-class life cycle experiences for their automation equipment, you will work with a highly motivated leadership team in need of strong project finance support, data, metrics and analysis to understand results and areas for improvement to create a clear path to our annual operating plan targets.  Utilizing tools that align with our ATS Business Model (ABM) foundation and practices, you will provide critical input to the direction of the group.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of regular project reports and analysis, as well as the monthly financial reports for Global Services USA Inc., (financial and management reporting).  Support and ongoing contribution to the annual operating plan process is also required.  

Responsibilities & Qualifications

INTERNAL CONTROL, POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • Maintain the accounting records in a timely, accurate and complete manner.
  • Review project scope change and change order requests for proper justification, schedule impacts, and adequate budget and funding.
  • Work with Project Managers to forecast work required to complete the project after identification of any scope/cost/schedule issues. 
  • Report project cost and schedule status to management for internal reviews as well as analyzing cost variances and recommending corrective actions. 
  • Initiate & implement follow-up measures to support the accomplishment of financial targets and highlight areas needing improvement.
  • Ensure that project billing milestone schedules are met and that customer invoices are prepared accurately and on a timely basis, with support from shared services resources. 
  • Work in coordination with project managers on contract budgets, progress payments, valuation of contract variations and compensation events as well as contract financial close-out. 
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to in a consistent manner within the division and that the financial reporting standards are applied consistently.  Regularly review policies and procedures with division leadership, to develop an ATS best practice approach for the financial management of the division.  
  • Ensure the safeguarding of company assets.

FINANCIAL REPORTING AND ACCOUNTING

  • Prepare the monthly corporate financial reporting package and supporting analysis on a timely basis, in accordance with IFRS and the ATS Accounting Policy Manual.  Ensure that divisional financial results are explained completely and accurately, with variances explained and areas of risk identified.
  • Perform month-end closing activities, including preparation of account reconciliations, ensuring that all balance sheet accounts are reconciled regularly. 
  • Maintain the General Ledger and Chart of Accounts.
  • Support the development of the Annual Operating Plan with financial inputs. 
  • Support preparation & analysis of quarterly and monthly financial reports. 
  • Develop and/or prepare ad hoc financial analysis as assigned by division management. 
  • Prepare year-end audit working papers if/ as required.

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

  • Maintain the Fixed Asset ledgers and administration, with support from shared service resources.
  • Administer the capital expenditure approval process if/as required.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly department expense reports and ensure the accuracy of the reports.
  • Respond to inquiries from department heads and perform required analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A university degree or college diploma in business and/or accounting or equivalent business experience is required.  
  • Must have or be working towards a professional accounting designation (CPA).

Experience:

  •  A minimum of 3 years of cost accounting experience is required; preferably in a manufacturing environment; knowledge of percentage of completion accounting is an asset.  
  • Individual must have the ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with people at all levels of the organization both verbally and in written form.  
  • Advanced knowledge of an ERP system (preferably JD Edwards) and Excel are required.  
  • In addition, the ability to work with minimal supervision and guidance in a collaborative, team-oriented, results driven work environment is mandatory.  
  • Strong analytical, financial reporting and accounting skills as well a continuous improvement mindset are critical.
