HSE/Technical Quality Specialist

Major Duties

Acts as a key onsite technical resource at the Woodbridge location, providing guidance and training across health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices. Partners closely with the Industrial Automation Cambridge site to support the promotion, implementation, and continuous improvement of HSE programs across ATS Industrial Automation Canada. 

 

Oversees quality processes, leveraging data and statistical analysis to identify trends, address non-compliance, and drive corrective actions. Develops and manages data systems to support reporting and decision-making. Conducts audits to evaluate quality system effectiveness, identify gaps, and implement improvements, working collaboratively across functions to ensure alignment and consistency. 

 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Drive legal regulatory compliance and internal Corporate conformance of Health, Safety & Environmental by working with departments and site leads to schedule both internal and external training, where required.  
  • Responsible for driving success in incident prevention through the implementation of corrective actions to promote and improve Health & Safety.
  • Provide expertise and leadership in recognition, assessment, evaluation, and control of health and safety hazards at the facility. Drive organizational goals through the elimination of occupational injuries/illnesses, environmental impacts, and property damage.
  • Analyze incident and near miss trends, to determine root causes, establish corrective actions and ensure sustainment. 
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of global HSE initiatives to ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations and industry leading safe practices.
  • Provide and maintain accurate statistical data, reports and analysis of injury trends to operations in support of divisional incident reduction goals.
  • Prioritize and support incident investigation process to ensure appropriate internal and external reporting is completed within required timeframes. 
  • Support both Cambridge and Woodbridge sites by championing the collection and submission of Environmental and
  • Sustainability data to Corporate HSE Leadership, and divisional Management/HSE Leads, where required.
  • Support both Cambridge and Woodbridge sites by overseeing the tracking and scheduling of internal occupational hygiene audits per regulatory requirements and Corporate Standards, ensuring communication and alignment with divisional HSE Leads.
  • Gather required Sustainability data from internal resources and input into ISNetworld, as required.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Act as the customer advocate during the product development and production phases of life cycle. 
  • Analyze statistical data to determine capability of a process and/or measurement systems.
  • Support Kaizen events, complete monthly KPI reviews, weekly project status report out meetings.
  • Implement a process compliance system and facilitate RCCA activities for cost saving opportunities.
  • Evaluate procedural change requirements and make the necessary document changes in conjunction with process owners.
  • Facilitate suppliers’ material performance reviews with internal departments.
  • Responsible for validation of any new processes introduced into production and monitoring the effectiveness of the processes. 

Continued Responsibilities

  • Conduct process capability and gauge repeatability and reliability studies on manufactured equipment internally or at suppliers. 
  • Analyze statistical data used to monitor quality performance to ensure customer requirements are met. 
  • Analysis rejects for assigned projects and reduce rework\non conformances through process improvement. 
  • Support the Quality Team as required and monitor incoming product inspections for improvement opportunities.  
  • Analysis and report deviation/waivers related to projects and suppliers 
  • Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures. 
  • Coordinates communication of HSE regulatory inspection activity with site leadership 
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct. 
  • Assist in investigating accidents/incidents. 

Qualificaitons

Education: 

  • Post secondary degree or diploma in a health and safety related discipline. Professional HSE designation preferred but not required. 

Experience and Skills: 

  • Minimum two years of hands on health and safety experience in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks 
  • Understanding of HSE regulatory framework in Canada  
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal 
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple demands under tight timelines 
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.  
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint and Excel. 
  • Experience with ISO 9001  
  • Strong problem-solving ability.

•    Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety and Environment compliance.
•    Hold team members accountable for health, safety and environmental compliance as part of the annual performance review process.
•    Ensure that the requirements of the health, safety and environment management system are implemented and maintained.
•    Carry out hazard assessments, inspections, and audits as required by legislative framework and/or corporate requirements.
•    Implement appropriate corrective measures for unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.
•    Ensure that appropriate equipment, materials and protective devices are provided and maintained in safe condition.
•    Attend HSE Due Diligence for Management training sessions.

The Compensation offered will be based on the local job market and may vary depending on factors such as the job-related knowledge, skills, experience of the selected candidate, as well as other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
