Primary Function to support assembly team by making/modifying parts to support assembly and integration.  Sets-up and operate various machine-tools, such as lathes, manual mills, CNC mills, surface grinders, and fits and sub assembles parts to make or repair mechanisms, tools, fixtures or machines, applying knowledge of mechanisms, shop mathematics, metal and plastic properties, lay-out and machining procedures.  Builds machine guarding.



  • Interprets specifications, drawings or sample parts to determine the most suitable and economical manufacturing process. Plans the sequence of machining operations.
  • Computes dimensions and tolerances and prepares working sketches from general descriptions and by examining parts and their mating surfaces.
  • Selects and installs cutting tools in machines.
  • Sets controls and gears to facilitate indexing of work piece, cutting speed and depth of cut according to type of materials.
  • Verifies conformance of part to specifications, using measuring instruments; such as, scales, calipers, micrometers and fixed gauges.
  • Finishes and fits parts to mechanisms.
  • Maintains machines and tools related to the manufacturing processes.  Performs required preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintain a 5S work area for the machine shop.
  • Must understand the 5S principles and their importance to the shop floor.
  • Must be fluent in working in the metric system.
  • Recommend design changes to parts with regards to improving manufacturing processes.
  • Looks after outsourcing parts for finishing/hardening including follow up to ensure parts are returned and kitted in a timely manner.
  • Attend design reviews as required.
  • Ensures that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS code of business conduct.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.




A Certificate of Qualification as a General Machinist or equivalent.


Three years’ of machining experience, working to close and medium tolerances, in a machine shop or tool room environment.
